What did you do in the garden today?

Today is going to be HOT. Ugh...

Good morning all. @Wee Farmer Sarah I can’t believe you’ve just finished with lettuce when it has been too hot here for months to grow it outside. Of course you’re way up there and I’m way down here lol.

I haven’t done anything outside, but I’ve been making plans to change things up. It occurred to me that I was doing things in an illogical way and they can be better, and easier.

We had a couple days of temps below 110 but they’re going back up. Even the saguaros are at deaths door here.

Wow you guys talked a lot. :gig

I will not use jars that are not meant for canning to can with. Like old salsa jars or something. The seals are not meant to be reused. I'm a stickler when it comes to safely canning, I don't need anyone getting sick. I have a huge stash of real canning jars & I always use new lids, I do not ever reuse them. Could it work, probably - but is it worth it? Heck no.

Picked another big batch of beans, some to freeze some for dinner last night. My cucumber plants are still producing a cuke every day, but the bugs have gotten to it so I'm just enjoying them till the end comes. There is a bunny living in the garden that keeps scaring me, lol, DH needs to take care of it soon. I'm sure it's the one that keeps having babies in my strawberries. 🤬

As far as tposts - DH uses his small jackhammer with a modified cup he built to pound them in & I use the tractor to pull them out. Makes easy work of it all. Unless they are the smaller ones, I just kick & wiggle them till they come out.

I'll use old jars, or jars not up to pressure canning, all day long for dry or vacuum storage though. I just mark them so they don't get back into canning circulation.

Have you considered thinning the peaches? That is what we did in the orchards. You do it when they are about the size of a golf ball (or by that time, anyway, preferably). There should be one peach per six inches or so for mature trees. I don't remember if they are further apart on young trees. Probably. You will get as much peach, I think, they will just be nicer and not damage the branches by breaking or by rubbing on supports.
You are absolutely right.
But the truth is...I was being greedy. I wanted it all:lau
This is the first year it produce a lot of peaches. We did thin it some, but not nearly enough.

We spend this morning removing damage peaches and feeding them to the chickens.

We also removed all the peaches from the weakest branches so they wouldn't break...peach wine anyone!

Next year, I will definitely be more mindful and not as greedy.
