What did you do in the garden today?

It came with an attachment to vacuum seal Mason jars which is fun but more gimmicky than useful imo.
My neighbor loves that attatchment, said it was worth the cost of the machine. Mine didn't work, and we only used it twice before it stopped working. VERY disappointed. It wasn't cheap.

Sweated today in the garden. My pores must be really clean now.

I need to go pick tomatoes. I see red ones, and several that are turning. I ate some cherry toms while I worked. They make a nice snack during a water break.

I have a total of 5 spaghetti squash on 3 dead plants. I'm going to get those, see how one cooks up.

I use my dehydrator almost daily and the vacuum sealer just as often or more so. I should probably upgrade my units. My food saver was a gift about ten years ago and still works ok. About the garden! I did nothing much today! Too D--- Hot! I will likely water some containers later when I take care of the chickens in the late afternoon, after 6pm or so. I will check my mushroom beds and logs before dark.

Good to know. I won't be getting a vacuum sealer anyway. I just try to wrap things like meats tightly, and for me if there's a little freezer burn, it's not a problem.

Do you ever use the mylar bags with the oxygen remover packets? Aren't those great for long term storage of dry goods?
They're good for really long term storage. I don't use them.
I do use oxi packs and moisture packs, especially for dehydrated items like onions.

My wife uses her attachment often. Hers is flawless so far and she has used it for lot of things she has dehydrated and then vacuum sealed in jars as well as buying large bulk bags of staples like rice and flour and storing them vacuum sealed.

I picked 3 zucchinis and a big handful of green beans today. Kept the biggest zuke and gave the rest to my neighbor. Pruned all the tomato plants, mostly trimming the heavy growth from the lower parts of my determinate tomatoes to give them some breathing room. And it looks like the first two butternut squashes were pollinated and won't fall off!

Tomorrow it looks like I'll have a nice little mess of yellow wax beans to pick. And another zucchine. I'll be working the solar powered crockpot again. LOL
