What did you do in the garden today?

I got home late last night from our 13+ hour drive back from South Carolina. I knew it was going to wicked hot today so I got up early to feed animals.

At 6:30 am, this is what my weather app said...


Ummm, yeah... I don't think so. That's off by 50 degrees.

Anyway, most of my plants are now dead from lack of rain/water combined with extreme heat. I'll go out tonight and water what I can but I'm not sure they are salvageable.

Also, our little barn cat has disappeared while we were on vacation. I'm really hoping something didn't kill her but she never leaves the barn area and she's nowhere to be found.

Pics of my SVB resistant project. C. pepo resistance to SVB came from small ornamental gourd. Grown from volunteers last year and this year. I do not treat as I only breed from survivors. Long vines as I can not seem to get bush

I add a teaspoon per gallon when USING it to cut that metallic taste that sometimes happens.

currently feels like 118'. The humidity is incredible and there isn't a hint of wind. The heat should snap in a few hours. hour north of me is having a storm with 2 inch+ hail. I could do without that.

Watered the fig tree and refilled the hummy feeder, hosed down the alpacas.
Cattle feedlots are having a tough go. Too many days of no wind, crazy humidity and over 100' heat. Cattle dropping. Poor things.

Wool blankets drying on the line and thermal curtains are back up.

When I was a kid my mom used to say that tomatoes ripened at night. Not true, but kind of and it just dawned on me why. They ripen between 75 and 85 degrees. Above or below that it slows down or stops completely. Here, the daytime summer temps are SO high they don't ripen again until the hours after sunset. LOL Huh, no wonder!

Picked some bell peppers and a huge eggplant. About to pick TONS of tomatoes and squash. I’ve been slacking on picking them.

Thank you, I didn't know that! I wonder what the difference is? It seems like the heat would penetrate puree better than chunks. Anyone know?
