What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks for the reminder. I was planning to put garlic in the ground but totally forgot about it.

The first year I planted garlic, I planted it November 1. I worried it might be too late, but it did very well. Now I try to get it in the ground by mid-October. That gives the roots more time to grow a bit.

I opted not to plant garlic this fall. I still have at least a dozen bulbs from this summer that I never used. I liked growing it but I need to start being smarter about utilizing space for things we use regularly. We use a lot of garlic salt or powder, not so much actual garlic itself. Maybe a couple of times a year but not enough to grow dozens of bulbs.

Evening gardeners. I didn’t do anything in the garden today other than move some things around. I did order some PEX pipe, but otherwise was unmotivated due to lack of sleep. I also got some fairy lights that I’m going to string around the garden and some some seeds I ordered in the mail today. It’s not even 1900 yet and I’m ready for bed g’nite all

Neighbor had a terrifying experience today.
We were just getting ready to sit down to dinner when we heard rural fire racing up the road. It turned down the neighbors road, but not into his drive, which meant it went down his barn drive.
I texted him and got no reply.
three hours later his wife called me, he got home from work and went to check the bees, fully suited.
He gets stung ALL.THE.TIME and has never had a problem. Today, he was the only one home and a bee got in at the gap at the neck zipper and got into the hood.
It stung him on the ear.
He started feeling weird in his lungs, not his throat, got lightheaded, and had the presence to call his brother, two miles down the road.
By the time his brother got there, (called rural on the way), neighbor was blacking out and foaming at the mouth.
Rural doesn't carry epis, I don't have one, the fireman next door doesn't have one.
Doc says he needs to get rid of the bees, and MUST carry an epi and ID from now on. He's that bad allergic to them now. UGH.
He JUST started this side business three years ago, and was finally getting ahead in it.

But new side hobby is better than dead (three kids under 10 in that house)

I'm thinking about starting a small amount of bee hives. Now that's a maybe not.

Don't let it turn u off the idea. Bee allergies are rare, even with over exposure.

God I've seen so many bushfires. It's crazy. I remember as a kid looking up at the hills surrounding our house at night and see nothing but fire over them. I've also had bees flee the resident beekeeper down the road and wind up in a terracotta statue right outside my bedroom window. I do not like being stung by them one bit and that sucks to hear that the bloke has to give up beekeeping.

Today was spent setting up another kratky. I plan on pumping a tonne of climbing beans in the spaces and have them meander around the tomato bushes to the right. Or even just have a couple of hangers and what not. I know they do pretty good in an NFT setup so I imagine kratky should be pretty decent. Hopefully I don't turn into toxic crusader from messing with these drums but it's just some water based cleaner.

OH almost forgot. There's amish paste and sun gold f1 tomatoes in the front and celtus, gourmet lettuce mix in the back.

I finally just went ahead and dug a hole about 5 ft away from the pear tree we are trying to dig out just so that I could get the clone pear tree planted. I have no idea if it will have enough time to put out good roots ( it has nubs started all over) before it gets too cold. Time will tell I guess

Thank you. That seems like a great idea for indoor gardening. I have a lot of the totes also. Maybe totes aren't just for storage anymore.

Earth boxes are expensive, but they are made with high grade plastic and can last longer than 25 years. In addition, this method uses organic fertilizer, so the potting mix can be reused which makes it cost effective.
