What did you do in the garden today?

I ordered a battery powered pole saw to trim some trees. A concession to age and condition. 3 of my medications say may cause dizziness. I have no business on a ladder working over my head. At least on the ground I have a better chance. Just small branches getting too close to the house.

Closer yet. Plumber just left. I don't mess with water. The sink is all hooked up.
Touch up and baseboard trim paint left. Paintings to be hung. Shower needs a solid scrubbing. And the barn door needs its rollers on and the header hung.

Hazelnut sapling has buds on it. Not bad for living in a bucket.
I THINK I'm going to make pex arches for the tomato vines this year up and over the cattle panels. We'll see.

Hey all, Happy New Year!

Life's been a poop show here - we had a water leak in the house & had to replace the floors, the furnace died so we've been without hot water for a week but the new one is going in as we speak. My back/legs are so bad I can barely walk - did too much for the holidays. 3rd surgery coming in a couple weeks. 🤞 Here's hoping for a better 2024, lol.

No gardening here, except I just brought in a tier of the greenstalk to have some lettuce inside. They're talking our first snowstorm next Sun.

@TJAnonymous - how is your daughters horse?
@Acre4Me - how you feeling?
@igorsMistress - what zone are you in?

Still 9b, no change. Hope this year is better for you, what a mess!

Oh no! I’m sorry your back and legs are hurting! I’m hoping your next surgery helps you out. Here’s to a better 2024!

Still sick. Not feeling to great right now. But, may go to doctor tomorrow since I am still sick.

I have 3 Hinnomaki Red gooseberry plants and I'm in 7B/8A. I just planted mine so they get shade during the hottest part of the day. They seem to be doing great...
I wish you success! I hope they continue to make it for you. My past experience, with afternoon shade still died one at a time until they were all gone by year three. I may have done something wrong with them but the weather was very hot and humid and they seemed to suffer then die in the summer heat. Compost and care did not make the usual difference for me. Perhaps, I should try it again as I like currents and Gooseberries and enjoyed them in the mtns. of East Tennessee were my great grandmother grew them. Rhubarb is another missed pie my mother and family grew and used in that region that has failed for me repeatedly here near the Mississippi Delta . I heard of a newly introduced variety from Australia that tolerates heat and humidity better than any older varieties in the USA. I am waiting to see if the seed and garden budget will allow that on the shopping list for 2024.

I really want to get some cattle panels to make some permanent arches in my garden. Maybe hubby can borrow the company truck to bring them home...?

Ok, so I'm thinking 4-5 months in advance. What else can I do in January! :barnie:lau
If you don't stake them high, they tend to wobble and lean a bit, so high and deep, just FYI.
