What did you do in the garden today?

I don't want to wish away winter, I love it & am excited that snow is coming, but I can't wait to get up the new garden fencing! I dream about not having bunnies having babies in my strawberry bed. :lau

@Sally PB your going to love your cattle panels in the garden. I have 3 & they are the best thing I've done in there so far. The greenbeans love it & it's easy picking from underneath. They are simple to cover with bug netting so I do squash & cukes on them too.

It is cold with a north wind today so I am not going to do much outside, I think. Yesterday , I cleaned out the cleanout area under the chickens roost and added it to the compost system. Scattered some crop residues for the chickens to work on in the run. I also recovered a couple rows the wind had torn the old light row cover fabric from over the lettuces. I will be harvesting most of the rest of the lettuce and Chinese cabbage before they go to seed this week, hopefully on a warmer day!

We don't have a truck, but we do have a 4x7 trailer. Hmmmmm... How many months until spring...?
You could use 4 fence pegs and tie wire a pvc or emt metal pipe high enough to walk under and zip tie a disposable nylon or plastic trellis on top.

I can't get those cattle panels, I own a Jeep Rubicon, but I should have got a truck instead. I was more into shore fishing when I got my Jeep, it could get me to those secret secluded spots.

I am planning on putting some decorative fencing around those beds to discourage the chickens and keep the goats from nibbling on the roses over there. Of course, the plan is in the spring.... The soil is soft and loamy so naturally the chickens want to dig through it every time I let them free range.... 🙄 It just seemed safer to just pull them up until I can get some fencing up.
Decorative fencing. Mine would say, 'that's pretty" NOM NOM NOM NOM. plants gone

I have been trying to grow some cold hardy vegetables the greenhouse this winter. I have put very little effort into it just a test run to see if it is possible. I planted cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi and beets. The cauliflower never germinated but lots of weeds came up so i have been cutting the weeds every few weeks and feeding them to the chickens.

The other veggies are growing very slowly. The appear healthy but I don’t know if they will get to harvestable size before they get frost killed. Everything did get lightly frost damaged a few weeks ago when temperatures dropped to the high teens overnight.
I added a small milk house heater set to defrost mode. It kicks in when the temperature gets below 40 degrees to keep the frost from settling in. So far I haven’t noticed any significant increase in the electric bill so it must not run too often.

My okra looks healthy in the morning, but in the late afternoon all of their leaves are drooping down like they are dying from sun stroke. It's been about a week since I transplanted them, and I had them in full sun while they were in 4-inch pots. However, I didn't let the potting mix dry out to harden them before I planted them in the ground. I am not sure if this step is necessary.
