What did you do in the garden today?

I gave most of the garden a good soaking this morning. But not the tomatoes. They're all mulched pretty good and I want their root systems to expand searching for water.

The collard greens are taking off so I'll need to start picking the lower leaves pretty soon.

ETA: Pulled the weeds out of the raised beds and fed them to the chickens.

Oddly enough, best choice brand baby cornstarch, unscented works really well at keeping off the biting flies, no-see-ums, and most other bugs. NO idea why, and don't care. LOL.
I chuck some on the alpacas when they are sheared too. Bonus, you smell good in the barn.
I wonder if it’s like diatomaceous earth? You got me wanting to experiment. I use a lot of powder for work bc it’s hot etc indoor. 🤔

I watered & tended to flock 5am gave everyone extra fresh, cold water, & it was already hot & humid this morning. I needed a fresh change of non-sweaty clothes at 7am to go to work.🙄

Luckily we are working mainly indoors all day with a/c, after we install a new front door.

So we had wind & hail last week & best I can figure is wind carried my 5 gal weed bucket about 30 feet & must've hit hard at that end of the garden netting, it took out 3 snow sticks (They're only flimsy fiberglass, lightweight, I use them for the netting, weave them through) & somehow ended up taking them down with netting & some of the veggie plants getting hung up in the deer netting & literally all swirled into a big ball. I had to untwist it & there was my weed bucket in the middle! No tornado reported & no damage other than tree limbs & some shingles blown off of an outbuilding, but I guess it was a squall that wanted to turn into one lol. I had some tomato plants, cucumbers & 1 squash perish, but some made it through the hail & wind & have rebounded! Yay! I have more that I had sprouted, but I'm waiting for this oppressive heat to let up a bit before I plant them. I have a Cherokee Tomato & a few others that did bounce back, a yellow squash & a zucchini. Some of the Marigolds are thriving & some are having it rough because after that hail pummeled them, some critter (squirrel probably) dug a few up that were not behind netting. Just dug them up & left them there to die in the sun. They're now replanted behind the netting, which was set up this time with additional stakes. Anyway...will get pics of the garden for ya. For now, just a few...

I have a TON of cukes. I've already made a bunch of pickles and cucumber salad. Gave a bunch away to the food pantry. Still have a bunch to do something with... Most are WAY overripe and golden. Thinking about using them to make relish but I'm pooped so it'll have to be later or tomorrow.

Was going to make tomato sauce too but just don't feel like it.

This heat just sucks your energy.

It's just cornstarch. NO idea why it works.
But I sure go through a lot of it in the summer, and although it says scent free, smells like baby to me.
In a good way, not a hot poopy diaper way.
