What did you do in the garden today?

Got my Drought monitor report today. It says we are currently not in a drought but they do expect drought to develop in the next 3 months. 🙁

We normally have a relatively wet fall... Drought through the fall is not good.

This might change where and when I plant this honey mesquite sapling. I'm going to have to put it somewhere I can reach with a hose... I was going to put it in the front pasture but I'd have to hand carry water out there...

Right on cue.... I just opened my weather app to see this.

Had a day off work today but did physical therapy 8:30am then got stuck in a traffic jam trying to get to the dentist at 10:30. I was late so I got bumped later but at least I got in. I'm worried about L4 L5 & a torn & displaced labral in the hip & now I was just told one of my old fillings needs to be replaced. Good grief I am falling apart!

When I got home I sprayed my squash with something for powder leaf then jumped on the mower. My neighbor has been dealing with a few acres of Johnsongrass. The owner isn't around so me & my 2 neighbors are trying to keep it mowed before it goes to seed. I proposed 2 neighbors & I grow some crops, let the owner get the tax advantage & let us get the crop. I hope it works out. It could be a win win.

We are supposed to get rain this weekend but the weather forecasting has been awful this year. We need the rain, but I will believe it when I see it.

We got some rain, and there are more showers in the forecast. Good day for indoor projects.

I did see some flowers on the row of beans I planted in early July. :fl

Does anyone prune their black raspberry canes? I know they bear on second year canes, so I plan to remove all the spent, 2 year old, shirt grabbing, skin tearing, served-their-purpose canes. The new canes are HUGE! and LONG! and going everywhere!

I'd read that you can prune them to 3-4 feet and they will grow more side canes the next year. The side canes are where they bear fruit.

I did pinch my new blackberry canes this year and they sent out 2-3 shoots from that junction! But never grew taller. So probably the same with raspberries. So pinch off at whatever height you want them. Watched a YT on it and so far it's worked
