What did you do in the garden today?

Had to water today. Near 80 for a couple days, and the plants all looked a little peaked this afternoon. Dug the last potato plant which finally died down. Yesterday deadheaded flowers while picking bouquets. I have spinach (volunteer) and choy sum (scattered seeds from spring's planting) up. I think I may plant some bok choy now.
Found a dozen eggs while in the garden, on top of the run tarp. I have a habitual escapee. Her name is Dora ( the explorer).

Very cool bug. Have never seen one before.
We have them here & the 1st time I saw one I thought it's either a prehistoric bug or one of the new mechanical inventions that escaped a lab...I mean wow, the bug has a cog wheel on its back!!! 😆

A few pics of mine here, they often hang out on sheds & pole barns & they still get my attention. Not quite as endearing as the Mantis, but supposedly a beneficial bug that eats the bad ones. They have a painful bite, I prefer not to experience personally, so I photograph, but otherwise leave 'em alone.

Aww, Dora is a sweet name

But does garlic work on these blood suckers? 🦟
We make a delicious spaghetti sauce, fresh basil & oregano, heavy on the garlic & some red pepper sausage & I sneak 3 tablespoons of red wine & a teeny pinch of cinnamon. Darn skeeters often hitch a ride into the house on my hat or hair then I hear the familiar high pitch buzz near my ear at 2am in bed. I tell DH we need to add more garlic next time! 😆 It probably won't make a difference to skeeters, but that sauce is delicious 😋

Thanks for sharing and the ⚠️

I started growing it a couple years ago actually. I saved the largest heads of last year's for seed, and got larger heads this year.

I put some in my sweet relish today. And yeah, it's garlicky and kind of spicy, which surprised me the first time I tasted it. I have some hanging in my kitchen.

Frying some more fresh dug potatoes for supper. Fried eggs and taters. Can't beat it!

frying whole potatoes? never heard of it.

What variety did you order?

I was looking for another variety to add to the Music that I've been planting for years. Last year I got some German White, and I couldn't tell any difference between the two types. The cloves looked the same, and as far as I could tell, tasted the same. I was hoping for a bit more bite to the flavor.

So I looked up different varieties, and thought metechi sounded good. I have some on order to plant this fall for next year.
I considered the Mechi variety.

I bought Music, although I could’ve just used some from this year :barnie.

Also bought Spanish Roja, and Chesnook Red. I sorted by hardneck, then by type. We enjoy the scapes, so I bought hardneck. I also picked one late season (forget which one is late). To try to extend the scape season.
