What did you do in the garden today?

Which is why many have given up here. We have a huge solitary bee population out here.
And we care and support those as best we can.
Theres some great beekeepers in Nebraska. I'll send you a link to a free online program presented by the University of Nebraska.

I went through my seeds to see what I had, ordered what I needed from Gurneys and Baker Creek, and received it all this week.

I may try some things I haven't tried growing before...or I might chicken out, lol, we'll see.

I also ordered more female chicks to come in April. I'm planning to incubate some of my eggs to hatch at the same time they arrive so I can raise them all together.
I ordered more Bielefelders, more Hamburgs, and some Buttercups from Murray McMurrey. I'm hoping to hatch Buckeyes, Marans, and Ameraucanas from my birds.

I do not usually talk about what I do with my bees. I will now. I am aware that I am considered wrong. I do not feed my bees. I leave them enough honey. Honey is better for them. I treat for mites but never check for mites. I do not insulate my hives. Mites and starvation are the most common reason for dead outs. A dead hive with lots of honey may be due to too cold to move to more honey. I try to control small hive beetles. I prefer dark bees. Mountain bees. Carniolan and Caucasian. I started this time with a swarm. Requeened with purchased Queens after 2 years.

when my mother had bees she also left them honey for winter and treated for mites without checking. they survived winter in zone 7b.

I transplanted a japanese quince that nursery sent me as a gift when I purchased raspberries and blackberries. also found beetroot seedlings under huge leaves that I forgot to transplant. poor things remained small but survived. I transplanted them and hope they will grow now. so I did some gardening on the first day of the year.

My wife has had to change pharmacies on 2 hard to get prescriptions. She calls around to see who has them in stock. The most recent was on Dec 31. Needed to get it at no cost on the 31st as of Jan first we start paying again. Doughnut hole thing on insurance. Kroger pharmacy had it 5 days. These are pricey meds. Transferred to CVS next door to Kroger.

Insane that we have to do this. This is how errors happen. Continuity of care failures.
