What did you do in the garden today?

Bought some local hot weather seeds: Gila River kaña (sorghum), red malabar spinach (not really spinach but a climbing leafy vine), okite and golden amaranth for the chickens. W'pegi bawi and U'us mu:ñ (beans), beit alpha cucumber, and chimayo (Mexican cantaloupe) for us (and probably the chickens, too).

is amaranth safe for chickens or it has to be baked first?

Well, Central Coast Cali. But I was outside from 8:30 until 4:10 pm. I would have been out longer except my alarm to go pick up my kiddo set me straight. I'm a weird mutt. Lol 😂
That will do it! Be safe out there in the sun! It's no joke.

We were starting to warm up to the mid 80's. Now over the next few days it will be down to the high 30's again. Mid TN weather. 🤷‍♂️

Everyone I know just feeds it to the chickens straight from the garden, or lets them eat it in the garden. No one has had any problems that I know of. I'll err on the side of caution and bake it if any comes up. Haven't had a lot of luck in that part of the yard.

I bought a soil testing kit. I hope that will reveal whatever deficiencies there are. Otherwise I'll have to send a sample to a lab. We don't have any soil here, just desert sand, so we have to make, or buy, soil if we want to grow anything. It's an annoying process. 😒

I went out at 8am and finished up my fruit tree area.
All trimmed, deer tape (hot pink field tape) put back up, fertilized all the trees and blueberries.
Happy plot

By 6pm my body was fully informing me of how old I am and much it felt I over did the day, :gig :old OH how bones dont like being on the ground.
I woke up at 3:45, its 39 out, I am cold.

Maybe after the rest of my 10cup :caf ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ ☕ pot and I go get paint, images (1)1.jpg big maybe

No kidding. Seems I'm going to need to start using sun screen every day again. Just in case it's warm enough to take off my coat.

We got frost Thursday morning here. It's going to be in the high 70s for the next few days here. Then back into the 60s again. Getting there though! I'm itching to get planting.

Making another garden bed for corn on Sunday. Today we're off to the property to mow and I'm going to sit on the tractor for the day. Clearing brush and moving dirt. Trying to make progress out there before it gets too hot.
