My determinate potato tubers that I grew in grow bags were all near the top. It's like the bottom half was wasted, so on my next grow I will use less potting mix.
If I’m correct I believe you’ll find that the new potato tubers will only grow above the newly planted seed potato. Deeper planting is better with hilling as they grow. Of course the hilling, or topping off of soil above the spuds also keep the sun away. I have, however, been wrong before……just saying.
 
Today everything, with the exception of the sweet potatoes, is in the dirt. As usual the beets are fighting me but everything else seems to be ok. Our Charlotte strawberries are about ready to explode into a bumper crop and the blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are rocking along. Won’t be long before bird protection will need to be put up.
