What did you do in the garden today?

I highly recommend growing this type of giant black winter squash. It gets really big up to 40lbs, but I like to pick them early before their seeds form. Its tender like a giant zucchini squash.

I am in zone 5. Over the last few days I planted out my Brussel sprout starts and leeks some in ground and some in towers. Hope it's not too early for my Leek starts but they were getting big and seem fine. I planted out some flower seeds and seedlings too. I again let the chickens work the in the ground garden area closest to them. That's where I plant tomatoes, peppers and beans since those are some of the few plants they don't bother too much if a couple chickens fly over their fence (Spitzhauben and Cream Legbar love to do this). I'm trying something different with my dollar store type stacking planters. Have had them for years and never had the best luck that's why we started buying Greenstalk planters a few years ago instead. Last year I did some herbs in them which did fine and also some radishes and beets which didn't fare well. I planted each stack with flowers this year to encourage pollinators and one stack is all edible flowers too. We'll see how those do. The problem with those small stacking planters is that they dry out so fast. I want to make use of them until they wear out since we have them and they're all set up and taking up space so we will see if I get gorgeous cascades of flowers all down them or struggling plants I need to transplant elsewhere :).

Yesterday kicked off a very wet week. Thunderstorms moved through my area in late afternoon then there was more scattered showers overnight. We may dry out on Thursday. Any outdoor work this week will be between rain showers.
Same here, we're in NH. Not happy about so many rainy days in a row.

Every day I find tons of things to do and what needs done.

My boys 16,19, and 21 have been wanting to talk about their hobbies, their dreams, things they found out, things going on at their jobs. It takes up a big chunk of my day, but I realize that the stuff to do will always be there. You never know how long you have with someone, and you don't want to look back and regress that you wish that you had just stopped and listened and was present for those moments.
Beautifully stated ♥️
