What did you do in the garden today?

She's broody.
I would concur - broody brats! Going broody at my place means ‘grumpy spoiling for fight’ silkies! Brats! Silkies can fight let me tell you! They have some serious ninja kicks!

Did I post the before and after I clean up the garden for the chickens???

I know this is off topic but I posted this concern on another thread and received a very limited response. My one hen is walking around with her feathers fluffed up and clucking. She did have a wad of dried poop on her which we cleaned, she was not plugged up. She seems to be behaving ok otherwise - eating, laying, running, etc. I have not seen any indication of being infested with mites or other but I could have missed something. I’m concerned and have no idea what is going on. It’s the hen to the right.
Yup, she's going broody.

Being in New Hampshire we are considered "safe" for sensitive plants like tomatoes and peppers after Memorial Day, end of May. I usually take a chance and plant some earlier.
I am also going to plant this week, I figure I can cover the wee small bit of garden I have. Your weather/climate is likely similar to here; my huge worry are the fruit trees, as long as I can get past the flowering stage without frost or snow it’s all good! So by end of May I should be ‘ok’.

I was signed up for years and never received any :(
I was going to use on paths of vegetable garden
Chipdrop recommends giving $20 or more to the arborist dumping the chips as an enticement to chose your place as a dropoff point. I didn't offer the incentive, but might at a later date.

If I see a crew nearby trimming trees and chipping along the road I'll definitely stop and ask if they'll drop the chips at my place. That's how I got my first load of chips, but they were working right next to my house that time.

Woodchips are nice to have for both gardening and chickens. They're great for establishing new gardening spots in the yard. Mow the grass short, cover the area with Kraft paper or cardboard then layer on 6 or 8 inches of chips. Works well.

I'm going to hook the wagon to the lawnmower and move some of what's left of my rotted woodchips to the pepper/tomato patch and top off what's already there.

I left some of my seeds outside and it rained 😱
On a brighter note, I think I figured out why I couldn’t get motived - lavender hand soap.
I’m very sensitive to lavender, make me super sleepy, groggy. Now that I’m using something else my energy is returning
I found a seed packet outside yesterday that I had fall out of my pocket. I thought it was empty so I didn't pick it up until yesterday.... There's seeds in it! I don't know if they got too wet but dang.

Saw that my direct sown melons are coming up. Hopefully I get fruit.

My hulless popcorn is almost all sprouted. Strawberry popcorn is lagging. I have seen three come up. I'm not sure how good germination will be since it cooled off so much after I planted. I don't have high hopes.

Pulled more pepper plants that died from root rot. Again, from the cool weather. Luckily I had a bunch of left overs so I've been able to replace the dead ones.

The only good that's come from the cool weather is that my lettuces are thriving. Cilantro has bolted already though.

Strawberries seem like 38 of 70 are going to make it. There may be a few stragglers so I haven't given up hope for the ones that look dead just yet. But if only 38 make it, that's fine.

It's supposed to get up to 94°F on Friday. Just one day, then back to the high 60s, low 70s. 🤷‍♀️

I just want the potatoes to finish.... And the garlic. I need the space! My cucumbers are waiting.

If my memory is correct I did offer $20. It was to be deducted when delivered. I also kept signing back up when the time ran out too 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess they don’t have it together in my area

Maybe demand is high there?

My daikon radish plants are starting to bolt, so I'm eating them as soon as I see the flower stem growing. I pulled one up today and had it for breakfast, root and leaves, chopped, steamed, and cooked into scrambled eggs. With a side of sauerkraut too. The daikon root was about 3/4" diameter at the top and 6 inches long.
