What did you do in the garden today?

Thunderstorm gave us .2 inches of rain last night. One variety of squash sprouted in 5 days. Others will come soon. Still setting some to sprout today. Works better than direct sowing for me. Too many things happen to the direct sown seeds.

After I got bit very badly around the eyes last month I spray my hat with insect repellant. That was brutal. I’ve been watching and looking at my peach tree the last few days. I don’t see any fruit developing. Wah! I suspect this year my tree is taking a time out. It has happened before. It produces well for 2 years, last year (year 3) it didn’t produce as well. So it’s disappointing but I can dream of a nice harvest next year.

I still can get in my garden bc it’s so dang wet
I did get the deep clean of the coop done. The fire ants decided to move in the coop. Rain drove them in? Anyway, I got the industrial strength vinegar and went to scrubbing. I put cedar chips around the perimeter hoping the ants won’t like the smell. We clean out the pine chips weekly but chickens are messy.

We got a brief, heavy shower; about 1/4" of rain. Could be more tomorrow and Thursday.

I made rhubarb jam today, and it turned out so delicious that I picked some more rhubarb to make another batch tomorrow.

For all the rhubarb growers... have you ever split your plants? I think I need to split the huge one; it had 3 flower stalks, which I cut off. I'm thinking I'll split it this fall, after it goes dormant.

Rained like crazy here, so I went out to check and the three varieties of bush beans and five pole beans have all sprouted.

Watered the meadow, watered 2 acres of pasture, watered the chicken yard, watered the garden, watered the alpacas.
Went through a LOT of water today.
