What did you do in the garden today?

I decided to put off on the tomato planting until my normal, almost June 1st. It's going to be continued cool and on and off rain this next week. Tomatoes in my soil do not care for that. They can hang out in the greenhouse for a bit longer.

It's STILL too cold to move my tomato/squash/pepper starts outside to begin hardening off. Next week, please???!!!?? I need to get them out of pots and into the ground.

On the plus side, these are the BEST LOOKING starts I've ever grown.

I had bad luck with my tomato starts. I may have to buy a dozen plants, some kind of paste tomato. My starts from seed may do ok but I need some backup plants just in case.

Two are Rhode Island Red pullets and two are New Hampshire males. I was planning to get a self sustaining flock of New Hampshires going and have seven pullets that are close to 9 weeks old now.

I got the pair of RIR chicks because I thought that just the two male chicks in the brooder box would make things a little lonely. RIR chickens are pretty close to the same as New Hampshires, and that's all I could find on short notice..

I ordered 3 Easter Eggers and I am positive one is RIR. No worries either way as far as I'm concerned.

too hot, dry and windy. luckily we are supposed to have little rain on sunday and monday. at least temperature will drop. good for plants, bad for hatching. I need hot weather to be able to keep goslings, duckling, poults and soon chicks outside. sale went down so I have more than I am supposed to have.

I will try this hatchery for my breeding experiments next time. I read on another thread that their Henry Knoll's line of New Hampshires grow fast and big. I am also interested in their white rangers, it can reach a similar weight as the cornish cross at 8 weeks, but they say the White Ranger offers enhanced heartiness compared to its very close relative, the Cornish Cross, making it a resilient and efficient choice for meat production.

Please post pictures! I have never gotten a good harvest from my blueberries. Birds get most of them, and the cheap plastic netting doesn't do a great job.

Well, as promised here is a pic of the frame we erected. The plan is to drape a commercial grade bird netting over it.
