What did you do in the garden today?

Finally getting around to getting the garden in order after several years of neglect. Got some more of the old weed barrier up this morning, and we had a ChipDrop yesterday! So we're getting started on laying it in the aisles. What a difference from what it was last year at this time!

We're about a third through, the back part still needs a lot of work.

Crappy weather day. The temperature is in the mid 50’s but theres a brisk wind making it feel much cooler. A few scattered showers thrown in too. My bok choi was getting ready to bolt so I pulled it up this morning. The stalks were not fully developed but the leaves are good. Total was 1/2 pound so I washed and bagged it split into 2 bags. One for me and one for DD. Just when I thought the asparagus was done another thicker stalk emerged on the male side of the bed. I think I’ll let it stay.

And finally, the grass seed in my front yard covering the big bare spot is finally turning into grass.

Looks good!

I got my pepper patch planted today. Mid 70s and sunny here today. I hope the habanero and Hatch chili peppers I grew from grocery store peppers produce this year. I might plant tomatoes tomorrow.

One nice thing about the soil being totally saturated? Weeds are easier to pull up! I did a bunch of weeding today in my raised beds....
Forgot to mention the totally BONEHEADED thing I did yesterday... It was while I was bagging grapes. I have astigmatism so I don't see things well very close up. I have a raspberry bed in front of my Concord grapes in one spot. I was focused on the grapes 3 ft away and reaching across the raspberries to tie bags... At one point, I leaned in suddenly and basically punctured my eyeball with a dead raspberry cane. 😵 Hurt like hell.... I tried to look in the side mirror of my Kei truck. Didn't see anything in my eye (but mind you, I'm blind up close) and it didn't appear to be bleeding. While it still hurt, I went back to finishing my chore. Later last night, the pain had increased. I checked it again in the bathroom but couldn't see anything obvious. Eye was blood red, watering badly, and starting to swell a bit. I secured a cold washcloth over it with a sleep mask and went to bed. In the morning, it was a little better but still swollen, watering a lot, and now I had pressure in my sinus cavity surrounding my eye. Decided to go to urgent care. They couldn't see anything either because of the swelling in my eye... Gave me some antibiotic eye drops and a steroid to help with the swelling. Told me if it gets worse to go to the ER. I don't think that's going to be necessary... The swelling has come down a bit. I think I can make it through with the eye drops until Tuesday and see if my eye doctor can get me in.

The worst part of this story? I nearly did the SAME THING again today while weeding... 🙄

My black raspberry canes are LOADED with flower buds!:celebrate(It's their 3rd summer here.)

My grape vines are LOADED with tiny grape clusters!:celebrate(It's their 3rd summer here.)

I see a lot of cherries on my cherry trees!

My blueberries have some flowers; deer got into the patch and pruned the tips of a lot of branches back in March.

Now, how to keep the :ducbirds from getting all the fruit?
