Best thing I've found for brassicas in general is since they don't need to be pollinated go ahead and cover them with fleece. It's the only sure-fire thing I've found. I was diligent with BT one year and they just laughed at me. Perhaps the batch was old.

You may be right about the batch. I believe that BT has about a two year shelf life and that the effectiveness drops as it ages. Plus heat will destroy it.

We got another half inch of rain yesterday. All sunny this morning, partly sunny now but very pleasant. I feel like I’m making progress on the garden and yard work. I installed the strings for the peas this morning, got most of the frame up for the pole beans and made a trip up to the hill garden. The tomato plants are looking good and the onions are starting to push through the soil. The grapevines are looking very good and are loaded with tiny grape bunches. I’m going to try to get some weeding done on the big 16 foot garden with the peas and carrots after I feed the wee beasties. I also took some time to dismantle the green bindweed monster that was covering one of my azaleas. Tomorrow is another “dry” day for gardening work. Yay!

Thank You. Yeah, we feed the takers everyday with a custom birdseed mix at our expense. Dessert is on them. Blueberries, blackberries and raspberries get hit but the blackberries and raspberries don’t seem to be enough of a favorite to make us need to net them, BUT blueberries! I feel your grief. The birds here will absolutely annihilate them. Before we started netting them we get maybe a pounds a year after netting we get, on average, 25 pounds a year. We’re our own worse enemy because we want the birds just not their appetite for desserts.

Picking strawberries, raspberries and cucumbers and peas. I'd like to note that my children will eat nothing that I have in good supply or that is "free" (scarcity is all they crave) so I'm pretty much eating a pound of strawberries a day as I putter around the garden. I should make jelly out of it if I can ever find the time.

Will kids eat a fresh strawberry pie? Use a pre-made pie crust made out of graham crackers or a pre-made ground pecan crust, line the pre-made pie shell w/ your hulled berries & use either a strawberry jello or your own glaze over the berries. I make my own glaze using only 1/2 the sugar in the recipe & add a 1/4 cup honey for sweetness. No oven baking during hot summer months & kids love a dessert they don't have to be told is good for them !! Put a little dollop of whipped cream sprayed on a slice! No baking! Put the kids to work to hull the berries for their dessert ~ they'll appreciate it more & then compliment their efforts no matter how crooked it turns out

Wow lots of posts. Weeded some more and ran the weed wacker. It did not want to run very well. Mixed up new fuel and problem solved. Small engines are really fussy about fuel.
