What did you do in the garden today?

I never have. And I've never used my Goodwill $10 pressure canner before either. Figured it would be a good way to get my feet wet in the pressure canning world.

I have the instructions...

What a great find! I pressure can quite a bit! I got mine for Christmas years ago and love using it I would rub some vegetable oil on the rubber gasket and give it a good once over. I know most extension offices will look it over and make sure the pressure gauge works if it has one etc. At least they used to.

About 40 (!) pages behind.

Looks like the rain and cool weather has caused some fungal issues on fruit trees. But, luckily heat is coming our way (along with some humidity).

Yesterday we got A LOT of rain around early afternoon. We have a waterway along the side of the yard, so it can flood thru there as it goes from one farm field across the street, thru the side yard, and onto the farm field behind us. Husband got out his canoe (17 ft long) and paddled down the waterway.

Today we went to a family farm to eat a Father’s Day lunch. In addition to the 100+ acres of crops, They have 17+ acres of just woods and single ATVs, and multi passenger ATVs and a few motorcycles. Well, most people, including the kids (buckled in in the “safer” multi passenger ATVs), were enjoying the trails today - many very muddy areas, to pond-like standing water from the rain. I was in a 2-person ATV, buckled in, this one had doors (but windshield was propped open) and I’m flecked with mud spray as I chose to wear a plain black tshirt…but you can see the clean strip where my seatbelt went across my chest. Lol.

But canoeing and ATV time and grilled food made for a good Fathers Day weekend .
We thought about taking the 4 seater RZR out today... Thought about taking out the boat. In the end we decided to use the childs new waterslide thing from costco. Had a blast!

I'm at my computer... I can't find my phone. So no photos of the yard just yet. BUT. I GOT THE DRIP DONE!!!! and all of the mulch aside from the potato bed. Not done planting the new peppers, tomatoes, and beans. So yeah. I'm so tired. DH liked his new coolers, golf balls and free pass on the laundry. >.> Fathers day is less important than mothers day. Just in case you didn't know. BAHAHAHAHA

NEWER is considered an upgrade, as it increases the sale value of your home. Think about it, if you were buying a 20 year old house with a 6 year old roof, and 18 year old siding and deck, you'd pay LESS for the house than if it was a 20 year old house with new siding, new deck, and new roof. So yep, increase the value, increase the taxes. And they find out about it when the permits for the repair work are filed.

similar here but we usually don't ask any permit to repair. most repairs are done at weekends when parasits have day(s) off.

You should get new seals, and check the calibration on your pressure gauge. AG extension office ftw for all the things. But no, really, don't skip on it.

Follow instructions. This winter I blew my pressure gasket and cooked one of my fingers to the bone in less than 15 seconds with a bad seal. My fault. But it sucked really bad.

Photos of the yard, garden and orchard for perspective today.

Believe me, we've tried. Year after year, bills go up to reduce Property tax %, and they keep failing. They passed a measure to let a casino come into the country for the express purpose that the funds generated to the county by said casino would offset needs that property taxes currently pay, there by lowering property taxes. Nope didn't happen. They just increased spending. UGH OH, and they tax at 100% valuation.
Isn’t the casino by itself lower the market value? In the town next to my village there are people who routinely shoot in the air because it lowers the taxes… try doing that?

I finally got around to finishing mixing concrete and old paint together and poured into a wooden mold to make concrete pavers for a low section that is all puddle during the rain. Even included some rainbow marbles. The question will be if I can demold them okay because it's a 8 square mold and I poured and cured three pavers almost two weeks ago that are still in it :)
FYI diesel fuel sprayed on the mold before pouring will help release from the mold.
