What did you do in the garden today?

I've grown my own wheat, my own corn, potatoes, etc but I've never even thought of growing my own rice!!!! What a fun project!!! How did you get started on that?
First, I bought rice seeds on Ebay that didn't grow. Then I tried planting supermarket black rice and some of the seeds grew and produced stronger rice seeds. The rice bucket in the picture is from 3rd generation seeds.

My original plan was to grow paddy straw for milky mushrooms, but I got sidetrack.

Last night I watered my herb patches I've started all over the place. I kinda forgot about three of them so they were very thirsty. 😅

The cucumber seeds I started directly in the garden are coming up and the green beans are already pushing up soil with their stem loops. Should see leaves in a day or so.

I planted all the other pepper plants that came from Home Cheapo on Friday. Picked another 3# of blackberries.

I killed another gopher by the garden last week. Somehow.... There's another one in the same tunnel system already. I don't get it.... I've said it before, I'm sure there's a portal down in the ground right there. Every time I kill one in this tunnel, in the middle of the yard, I get maybe a week without a gopher then another one starts working on the holes I filled and I have to start all over again. This tiny area in my original clover patch looks like Swiss cheese. It's so frustrating.

I need to start the rest of the green beans, more Basil, plant a few more of those leftover tomatoes that I never tried to sell (too many family members needed to replace their plants randomly so I kept putting it off), and I need to add drip on the back patio for my pots right there.

Today was not the day for any of that though. Had work and going to pick up stuff we won from the local monthly auction. Got a 40x30' storage shelter for out at the property, it's 22' tall at the peak with a 14' tall garage door so we can put the boat in without lowering the tower. It's the same size as the metal building we are planning to build, but this will get us through the next 5 years or so for less than $2000 for the structure. Found the load limit for the loader. I could barley get that thing off of the ground, 2800# is the max. 😂

Spring planted peas are just about finished, I think I’ll plant again for a fall crop. Cabbage is done, again I think I’ll plant a fall crop. Other than these two crops all the planting is done and harvesting and waiting have begun. Some of our beets, beans, potatoes and all of the spring peas have been harvested and processed. The tomatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe have all taken root and are spreading well and fruit is beginning to develop on the melons and cukes. The balance of the potatoes have to be pulled because of scab (my fault, I adjusted the soil Ph too high). Blackberries, and raspberries are overloading us and the blueberries are on the verge of overloading us plus the strawberries are getting ready to give another July-ish harvest. Oh, and the weeds are doing spectacularly well. Chickens are about to be full fledged chickens in about two weeks, it will be their first birthday the first of July and our broody hen is now about 10 days into hatching her three eggs, all of which look viable so we may have new chicks to celebrate the arrival of our first chicks.:celebrate:wee:celebrate

I consider these to be purple as they will get darker. Bow cane like black raspberry and taste like red raspberry. Bees pollinated, bird planted, and I found it. Against all odds it grew.
