What did you do in the garden today?

Heat index is 116 degrees..
I think that’s what we’re supposed to get in a couple
Of days (happy birthday to me…) what do you do with your birds?!

My day is scrambling to get some
Cages ready in the garage because I have one very dumb Buff Orpington being broody without sitting on eggs.
My birds seem to manage decently well... We have tons of dense shade and lots of dirt in the shade for them to dust bathe. I also put lots of water bowls and buckets all over the place. I have to put out a lot of them because the ducks like to muck up whatever water they find. I typically lock the ducks back in their pen around 6 pm. I also give the goats and chickens fresh, CLEAN water afterwards. Sometimes I do give them chilled fruit, like watermelon. Im thankful we are blessed with so many giant oak trees that make summer in the Deep South somewhat bearable.

The fee schedule for our county is absolute garbage. Our raw land is under county regulation, far outside of any city limits. We also have protected species of oak tree. And our property sits inside a "sensitive resource area". Which limits what we can build and makes it expensive for no good reason.
It's called "living in Calif" & I use the term "living" while scoffing...:(

Here too. Insane with 40mph winds. I can't image how bad without the wind. I prefer the wind with this heat.
I don't know... 😂

Trimmed and thinned the tomatoes for air circulation and pulled the lettuce. My beans are growing..finally! Lucky I even got that done- 100 degrees and crazy wind, plus my husband had a full shoulder replacement surgery yesterday - so my garden will have to wait. Oh- I did see SVB eggs on my Table King Acorn squash plants. Need to order some BT! I wonder what it would be like to be able to say " oh what shall I do with all my time since I don't have any SVB or cabbage moths to deal with?" Hahah

Cucumbers are sliced and soaking in the salt water, dill is washed and hanging in the kitchen ready to use. Canning jars are on the table, going to be a busy morning tomorrow. More huckleberries to the freezer, another batch of green beans, and think I picked the last of the blueberries. Beets have gotten about as big as a half dollar, and I keep picking the jalapenos way too early. Just can't wait for them to get some heat to them before I'm yanking them for more cowboy candy, lol. I will be more patient, I will be more patient...... Yeah, right!
