What did you do in the garden today?

3 hrs and a broken back later, the next batch of peaches is finally processed... Well, technically it's in the water bath now but the hard part is over. I also picked up 2 lbs of strawberries. Made a couple of quarts of syrup and making fruit leather with the pulp.

Picked some pickling cukes today. Still don't have enough yet to make pickles...

Trying to stay indoors today. It's ridiculous outside today.
Wow, peaches already huh? What did you can - like sliced peaches or pie filling or something?
Curious as this is my first year that my peach tree has produced. I don't know if I'll get anything tho, I just thinned the peaches & a bunch have teeth marks (stupid squirrels) and the rest are oozing. I have peach leaf curl & need to treat in the fall, but I'm hoping for a few anyway. :fl

I think I'll spray my plants with Japanese beetle Bt tonight. We are right in the window for them to show up and I'd like to see if I can knock down the population early. It is my first year using BeetleJUS so I'll report back if damage seems lesser.

I saw the first Japanese Beetle yesterday, joy.
I heard the low-to-the-ground humming buzz that I associate with Japanese beetles showing up. Usually I don't see them until around the 4th of July. I don't think I've ever seen them in June.

I get leaf curl early in the season @Sueby but I’ve never sprayed for it. It hasn’t seemed to affect the harvest and usually corrects itself in a couple of weeks. This heat is awful. My 7 yo hen is struggling. I tried forcing water in her but she was too worn out. I left the coop door open hoping to let the “cooler” night air revive them. They will be definitely be getting more attention tomorrow.

My hens are were panting today, felt sorry for them. Gave them a tub of water in addition to their usual waterer….no takers. Gave them frozen blueberries which they readily devoured, but only if hand fed. We have a screen insert that we install in the clean out door opening to allow total airflow but it has a limited benefit IMO but it will go back in tomorrow and I’m going to take a fan out and set it to blow under the coop to see if they would appreciate it. Oddly, to me anyway, the rooster wasn’t panting just the hens.
Took all of the pea plants out and weeded that area, pulled another batch of beans and blackberries, also trimmed the tomato plants.Thought I’d do the hard part, the pea pulling and weeding, during high noon to about two to see if I could make myself pass out from the heat, almost but no cigar. Maybe tomorrow.

That is interesting. I'm going to guess it's thanks to his big comb and wattles, coupled with the fact that he doesn't have to expend energy making/laying eggs.
On top of everything else we have a broody about 15 days into egg setting. It has to be miserable for her but she was on the eggs much longer today then she was the last few days prior. She had been hanging out at least a couple of hours over the weekend here with the temps in to mid 90’s. Today, with it being wvn hotter she was out an hour or less. Kind of surprised me.
