101F AGAIN! So have cool water running. Area down to 93F, leaves of plants perked up and the soil is cooling.

Pretty frigid here today, only hit 99.

Pulled and processed some beets, pickled. Pulled another 3.5 lbs of beans, opened the coop to allow as much airflow as possible, hosed down the chicken yard to cool it off a bit…..and turn it into a mess……which will transfer to the chickens at some point. Counting down the days, about three left, before I find out how many grandchickens I’m going to be blessed with, possibly and hopefully three.

Right now, I get lots of complains about no strawberries for a while and not all chickens love raspberries. They are just too spoiled.

Only berries my chickens will hoover down are blueberries. They will eat the blackberries but only if hand fed. Raspberries and strawberries are no go’s for the most part. If we let them eat blueberries at will they’d all would atuff themselves to the point of not being able to move. We’d find them laying on their backs, feet in the air, groaning, and bloated.

Most of mine that died recently are heavy breeds like Orpingtons, Australorps, etc... I purchased them from McMurray Hatchery... Maybe that's the link?

Are we saying that BO’s have a short lifespan?

No chicken in my flock wants hornworm. All my chickens looked at it and turned their beaks away. They even don't want earth worms. Right now, I get lots of complains about no strawberries for a while and not all chickens love raspberries. They are just too spoiled.

My hens ignore my rooster every time he finds and offers them a worm. He gets quite the cold shoulder.

I was working in a metal building earlier today, with no air conditioning... It's currently 98 degrees. Heat index is 108. Awful... I need a shower.

Last night I cut that giant zucchini into some zucchini fries that I battered and deep fried. Definitely going to do that with all those I miss.

Spaghetti squash is kaput. Not sure if it was done in by SVB, fungus, or heat/lack of water. Think I'm going to plant new seeds this evening.

I have some pickles and green beans that need to be processed this evening...

Oh, and my tomatoes and cantaloupe are sooooo far behind on growing. I usually have fruit from both by now. I have a few tomatoes that are just starting to turn pinkish. No actual cantaloupe to speak of, but plenty of flowers... What a weird season this is turning out to be...
