What did you do in the garden today?

What Neem oil do you use? We have not had good results with Neem. It seems nothing organic will work on squash bugs and cucumber beetles. I just have to check twice daily for eggs and culling the pests.

How are you mixing or applying the neem?

I've found it doesn't work on adult squash bugs but does work against nymphs. With the adults, I just pick them off and squash them.

You can use it at any stage, but it might taste like a courgette instead of a pumpkin.

Look look. Aren’t they pretty? I was thinking the big ones would taste better, since there’s a huge hype around Cour des Beaux (I think is how you write the name), but they weren’t that much better than the Stupice, and they are super soft. I am waiting for Punta Banda (determinate) which looks great and super healthy too.
Ikram also looks healthy, it doesn’t taste too good, but has a very long shelf life (at least a month).

I came close to doing the work and getting the drip irrigation set up for the tomatoes, peppers and beans in the new garden bed by the woods but didn't. It was much easier just to spend a half hour watering them by hand.

I will really miss my garden this fall beets are a fall item.
Never pull them till early October.

I think the trick with squash bugs is catching them early. Once they hit adult stage I don’t think any pesticide works well.

Our garden has been organic since 1993/4. We understand that pest control is a bit more difficult/time consuming, but we're okay with it.

At adult level I can only squash them. I'm trying to check twice a day for pests and their eggs.

Today we found an Assassin bug, I hope there are more, well at least another of the opposite sex and they have little assassin bugs that want to remain in the garden.

Yes and only mixing a small amount as needed.

All the indeterminate tomatoes are starting to ripen. Gonna be covered up in tomatoes in a couple of days. One of them, 'Galahad' has come down with what I believe to be verticillium wilt. I've always had a problem with this and chose the tomato varieties I did to deal with it. A couple of the dahlias have it also while the others seem to be as healthy as can be. I'm going to harvest the ripe tomatoes today before culling this plant.

The one right next to it, 'Bobcat' is flourishing so far. I'll know not to plant 'Galahad' next year.

And the bell peppers (also hybrids although I can't remember the variety) are doing well .

I foresee stuffed peppers in our future.

Finally having to start watering everything although we have a higher chance of rain in the next couple of days. Fingers crossed!

We also have a problem with V Wilt, our tomatoes are heirlooms and we save seeds and use the same every year. They are delicious and many are Large.

For the wilt, we trim the leaves/stems and it gives the plant energy to continue to produce.
