What did you do in the garden today?

So now my flock harmony is less harmonious. As mother starts to cut the two new peeps off, they’re one month old, they are getting harassed at bedtime over the roosting spot. My favorite and friendliest hen is pecking at them when they try to share a roost with her. Plenty of room on the roost BTW and the other four will be on the other roost. Thinking of adding another smaller roost in the coop for the peeps to hopefully eliminate this problem. Hoping for some wisdom from the experts in the chicken world. The chickens do not display any issues outside of this night time roosting issue.

Are all the roosts at the same height? When I added the last batch of birds, I added two roosts and put them about 3-4" lower than the main roost. That seemed to help calm things down.

I’m only laughing because it’s true. My legs are eat up. Last year I got into poison ivy and itched/scratched like a crazy person. This year mosquitoes! I’ve tried everything. Bug spray, a bucket of water with “poisoned”mosquito food, I’m pretty sure they just use that to breed. It’s been over 100 degrees here, there’s no standing water or anything. These evil creatures just appear!

I wear jeans when out in the garden or doing any yard work regardless of the temp or humidity for this very reason.

The two original roosts are the same height. With our initial six chickens they all roosted on the longest one which is 50” long. The other original is about 24” long and was really never used except for the chickens to use as a launch site for an opening on the long roost. It appears as though there is more than enough roost space BUT I’ve noticed this one particular hen give the new peeps a load of grief when they get on this shorter roost with her, which she is only on long enough to find a spot on the longer roost with every one else. So much so that the peeps were in a tizzy and jumped into one of the nest boxes and then on top of the divider between it and another box…it was heartbreaking to watch this. Anyway, I took them from on top of the divider and put them on this shorter roost after the aggravated hen was on the other roost with the rest of the team. My thought is a smaller roost bar a bit lower, this would give the peeps their own space and have them lower than everyone else. Does this tale make any sense?

part of my tomato plant that I was most excited got so heavy with unripe fruit that it snapped so I am having to find a way to prop it up and hope that it keeps growing

It’s definitely a good reason. I just can’t do pants when I’m hot. I’m miserable either way..bring on the cold weather!!

True that. We have toads -a- plenty here every year and we let them go do their thing which they gleefully do EXCEPT when a chicken finds it first. Once that happens the chase is on and the entire flock is trying to get it from the finder.

I was flossing my front teeth the other day, and a piece broke off. It's hardly visible from the front, but I can feel a ragged hollow edge inside. It's really freaking me out. I wonder if the dentist can fix it with filling.

Had two childhood fillings fail, after about 60 years, that left two molars with jagged edges. Never caused any problem so I just left things as they are…..I’ll probably pay for this decision later in life most likely.

Just got done hosing down the alpacas and refilling their pool. I also put ice in all their water pails.
The chickens have ice water too.
The biting cattle flies and deer flies, OMG so bad tonight.

Stopped by the garden and grabbed 10 pounds of tomatoes. THEN had some fun with the photo.
