You did more than me. I made and processed three half pints of wild Oregon Grape jelly, using the homemade apple pectin I created last weekend.

Looks good. I was interested in how you were going to use that pectin. Is it something you can hold for future use? Or did you already answer that and I missed it?

Today, after realizing I was short on jars mid project, and running down to the local hardware for more I decided to inventory my jars. To my surprise we have over 330 jars total. Split up unevenly between quarts, WM quarts, pints, and half pints.

I picked just a couple of handfuls of pole beans this morning and another large colander of black beans. When I was picking the pole beans I heard this weird noise. I knew I had heard it somewhere before then I saw something fly by. Didn’t quite see what is was. I started picking the black beans and I found the source, a nearly 3 inch long grasshopper. He was working on one of the bean pods. So I picked as many as I could bear. My back is still sore. I don’t recall seeing grasshoppers that big here in New England. In the south (of the mason dixon line) but not this far north. The chocolate cherry tomatoes are doing nicely and there are a few that will be ready to pick tomorrow. There are more blossoms on the tomato plants today which is encouraging. The temperatures today were cooler than they have been. Tomorrow will be near 90F. There’s also a slim chance we may get some rain tomorrow night into Monday morning. The last rain we’ve had was August 1st. Needless to say I watered the lower gardens and the grape vines today. I’ll likely water the SM tomato plants tomorrow.

How can I deal with the late blight on my tomatoes? Only a couple are affected right now but I’ve been cutting off any affected parts I see but it isn’t making any difference.

Our thermostat is set at 74 degrees which feels freezing when you walk inside. That unit sits in the kitchen window which opens to our West-facing garage so it appears warmer indoors than it actually is...

My son is in the military. He was sent to Montana this week for a training exercise. The air temperature was 98 degrees here when he left. He said it's 55 degrees in Montana and he's freezing his arse off....

Green tomatoes can be substituted for the tomatillos. I never tried the recipe, so try at your own risk. But it is an approved safe recipe for canning.

I use the ball canning book to make both of these. The flavor is great. I prefer to use tomatillos, but if it's a bad year for them then green tomatoes work!
