What did you do in the garden today?

I around 15 minutes from one of the rainiest cities in the US and that is about a 1/3 of what we get a year. It seems like everything in Australia has to be extreme
My father was 80 when the rain started in 2020. He said it was like this 60yrs ago. In 2019 we had fires and smoke for weeks + temps in high 30s / 90s F, even a 40C day with a hot blowing westerly. We loved it. We were out there putting the tin roof on the chook house lol

I've been experimenting with making my own deodorant. Anyone else done this before? I'm going to have to throw out the first batch I made... I used baking soda along with other ingredients and it gave me a bad rash. Too alkaline for my skin... I finished a new batch today. Ingredients below... So far, so good! :fl

3 T. Coconut Oil
1 T. Shea Butter
1 T. Mango Butter
3 T. Arrowroot Powder
1 T. Kaolin Clay
1/2 Tsp Lanolin
2 T. Beeswax
Essential Oils for scent - I used Lavender and Vanilla
I hope it works out for you. I've become allergic to all deodorant.
It took 3 weeks to completely detox my body so it wouldn't stink after over-the-counter deodorants.
I only use pure clear Aloe vera now. After the detox time, no matter how much I sweat I don't stink.
If I use even natural deodorant even one time, I have to detox again.
Detoxing means just me and everyone around me getting to suffer without any deodorants at all. 🦨

And this isn't the time of year to have to do that!

I'll take your disgusting and raise you to revolting. August is always SO gross here. Between the crop transpiration and the humidity coming up from the Gulf AND the heat over 95.....starting with fog at 75 degrees every morning. GROSS GROSS GROSS

I need to pick the garden too. Maybe this evening.
The rabbit is getting creative with reaching tomatoes.
I am SO disappointed in the number of tomatoes this year.

The grapes are pretty solid, but the tomatoes. LATE and sparse.
This is exactly why I plant indeterminate here. That way they keep going until October frost kills them. It gives me a fighting chance when we have a late season.
Right?!!!!! The fog and humidity is awful. Disgusting. And Gross! I have indeterminate tomato plants that are producing, but definitely getting hit with disease from the rain. It's the strangest weather year! Next week is beautiful weather! I am looking forward to that!

I'm right there with you. The heat and the critter that's eating my zucchini, it's a nightmare. I'm thankful that we didn't get the 3 weeks of triple digits again like last year but it's so hot that I cannot really go out because of my breathing difficulties. Sometimes I just wish I lived in a cooler area but I'm stuck in California 🤢. I really wish it would rain
I got to go to California 8 times from 2009- 2012. I thought it was so beautiful. Loved the ocean and the area. Now it seems whenever I hear about California it's always bad. What a shame. I bet the heat would be hard if you have breathing issues. That has to stink..

I think I got scammed on some seeds. Supposed to be Dunja zucchini a parthenocarpic variety capable of producing without pollination. I planted one plant. It has been blooming since early July. Never any male flowers open when female flowers are open. The small fruit rot and fall off. I have a second planting of 4 blooming male flowers now. I guess pollination required. So, I wait.
Don't feel bad- i got scammed din tomato seeds this year. Supposed to be determinate paste tomatoes. They were all cherry tomatoes. Ugh..

I use white original beef bone broth concentrates daily and decided to try some dehydrated beef cubes from amazon with my Korean style beef bone instant soup. Note: This only works with the original concentrate, the garlic flavor one is nasty.

I am consuming beef bone broth for its collagen together with collagen supplements daily. I wish I started up taking collagen years ago. I also bought dehydrated cans of mushroom, garlic, onion, and green peas for convenience. Fresh onions and garlic decompose fast in my environment. Anyway, I am getting ready for the Zombie invasion.

I'm still behind. But, I decided to dedicate a whole hour to garden today after work before the PTA meeting. I picked some tomatoes. I am seeing root knot nematode impact on almost every tomato variety at this point. I've torn two plants out completely.

I picked as many peaches as I could fit in my shirt front "basket" without ruining it. Did that when I collected eggs this evening. Put them in the fridge.

My bush beans, I didn't even get one harvest of tender pods.... I never got out there to pick them. So they are not putting on new beans. All pods are spongey. I'll let them dry until the weekend then collect seeds and reset the bed for fall garlic. Oh well. Pole beans are in a similar state.

Things are winding down in the summer garden. I'll leave tomatoes up and peppers until frost or dead from nematodes, the rest is getting harvested and chop and dropped. Time to start brassicas, lettuce, fall beets, and carrots.

I diced up two more freeze dryer trays of tomatoes in that hour before the PTA meeting. In the freezer pre-freezing. Yay! I need to fill two more trays to have a full load in the freeze dryer.

It's still 84° outside. Yuck. Going to be triple digits again tomorrow.
