Today has not been going well. I woke up literally 5 minutes before I had to go to school and it seems like my phone has decided to stop working properly. Every few minutes it powers off and restarts

Okra seed for next year arrived today. I saved some seed out of a pink tomato I bought. Skin is a bit thicker for a pink and big enough to slice for sandwiches. Should have longer shelf life for a pink. Collected some wildflower seeds. Dame's rocket is not native.

I am also curious about this; I’m considering growing tomatoes next year for homemade pizza sauce, but am fighting with myself over what seeds to get. (I guess I could just buy all the varieties I’m considering but I’m very limited on space to grow them in.) I gather San Marzano are basically the gold standard of paste tomatoes, but I was also considering Inciardi or going off-script and trying a non-paste tomato.

If tomatoes thrive in your environment, I would go with Super Sauce tomatoes........

Harvested some of my dried Calima beans today, maybe they’ll sprout next year….maybe not Dug up and weeded the final bit of our larger garden area, did some weed eating…..with a trimmer not a knife and fork, played with/ tended to the chickens. Absolutely pleased to see the new peeps scurrying around momma at day four. Realized we still have some strawberries to pick, a bit of a surprise given it’s near the end of August.

Just hand watered the plants that are still growing. Picked some more black beans, and good news the seeds I planted last week are sprouting. Still no rain. May get something on Friday. I harvested the tarragon and a load of oregano. The tarragon dried quickly. Now the house is saturated with the aroma of oregano. Tomorrow I may harvest parsley. I’m chipping away at the weed whacking in the back yard. Also need to get the mowing done before labor day. I believe 2 of my old Columbian Wyandotte’s are starting their molts. It looked like they had a pillow fight in their coop yesterday. Lol! And yes: SM is San Marzano tomatoes. I had grown Roma's for years and tried SM 6 years ago. I really do prefer them for my sauces. This year just has not been good for tomatoes due to the heat. I’m looking at using shade cloths and finishing my rain barrel water collection setup. I’ve noticed a big difference in natural rain water and using town water that’s loaded with chlorine, fluoride, and who knows what they add to our local drinking water. Fingers crossed for a better growing season next year.

Not too bad for a winter sunflower. It had enough rain thats for sure.
