What did you do in the garden today?

Worked all day on the new compost/manure bin. I need to get a hog panel tomorrow to keep the hens out, but otherwise it's done. It was HOT, windy, dusty, buggy work.
Next up is resetting the tomato rows in the garden. Maybe Sunday.

Yeah, I have them on pasture that's 28% protein. Plus their feed is 18% right now. I haven't gotten an egg in two weeks. 10 chickens, no eggs.

At least I get funny pictures.

Ya, we have a lot of prickle butts running around here. 24 layers and only 9 eggs every two days, and those are one hen and 8 pullets. LOL

I got rid of some zinnia plants and made a bouquet with the good blooms.

Pics of the old shed being converted to a coop. Upper roost about 26” high, lower one about 16”. Would you put a second lower roost to the left? Lower roost is just intended for backup for the young chickens/peeps and also as a step to the upper roost.

Will you do poop boards at all? Or you could use that space under to build a separate place to let a hen be broody and have her chicks with her for a short time.

Spent some time in the garden today getting beds ready for garlic, carrots, peas, kale, lettuce, beets, broccoli, and arugula.

Got my sulfur for the garlic beds. Sifted all of the mulch out of three of the beds.

I have 4 pullets, the one who was laying.... She tried to go broody and has not laid since. The other three.... I don't even know. They're 27 weeks old now and two are squatting, but no eggs.

I have one pullet, a silkie that hasn't started yet. I was told they take forever to start. She's at 6 months now. I don't expect her to lay until November or December.
