What did you do in the garden today?

I have to chase away feral chickens in my front yard every day.
Do the feral chickens have qualities that you'd like to add to your flock? I'd guess that they are acclimated to your area.

My chicks got their first water and feed today and are acting like little chickens. LOL

Finished putting my garden to bed for the winter just in the nick of time. It is getting really cold this weekend. Glad to be done tilling. I don't have a big garden per say and only a small electric tiller, but it gets the job done. Finished getting the coop wrapped today also. Since we have had a rather wonderful fall, everything feels like we are doing it to late. One strange year for weather in the Midwest that's for sure.
Freezing ...for just one day, then it's back to the upper 60s ! LOL. I just want to kill the biting bugs and get rid of the Asian lady beetles and stink bugs.

raked down the corral for the upcoming winter, cleared out the manure/compost pile, deep cleaned the coop and runs and loaded up the manure spreader for the field 3x. Despite cleaning my sinus', they're on FIRE. But the compost/manure bins are empty and ready for the chill.
Raining hard on and off all day now.
Sitting back and waiting for a cold night, cold day, and COLD night, before temperatures climb again.

Dropping down to the 20s Sunday. Coop is ready for winter, and used that excess straw that my girls broke out of the bales on the vegetable garden beds, gazebo, lily garden, clematis bed, and hibiscus bed as mulch. Hated using it for that as there will be sooo much more weeding, but wasn't going to let it go to waste. Now the leaves are finally starting to drop, so I can start shredding those for a proper mulch on everything else. Can't wait for winter to get here so I can get some rest, lol.

I came across this small online US company that sell stainless steel lids, silicone fermentation lids, grating lids, drinking lids etc. for small or wide mouth mason jars.

My red star chickens are flighty and don't want to go back in their pen at night. They rather sleep on their coop's roof or tree. However, I found a way to get them all in their coop in the evening.

When I let them out to play in the morning, I take away their feeder and put it back in the evening. They follow me back to the coop and pile on the feeder in the evening, so I can lock them up.
