I have to chase away feral chickens in my front yard every day.

If this is the case who’s to say which chicken is which.

I'll be planting the mahonia seeds in the spring. Some direct sow and some in pots in the green house in March or April. Fall is just too busy to plan where to put something like that.

I'm sure I read something somewhere about mahonias not responding well to transplanting, but that might have been about digging them up and moving them.

Yes, I read that too. I'll use one of my upside down yogurt container pots so that I don't disturb them. That's why I want to do some as direct sow too, just in case they are reeeeeeeallllllly sensitive to transplanting.

One reason to do some in pots is because I won't have any idea what the sprouts will look like.

Exactly! They take a loss on one or a few items to lead customers into their store and will make up the cost of the product in other sales.
My favorite local grocery is giving away a free Butterball or Honeysuckle turkey to anyone spending $125 (excluding alcohol, tobacco, and paper products) between the 19th and the 26th. For those not spending that much, the first whole turkey is 79¢/lb and the rest are $1.09.

Being that they are within a few blocks of an Aldi, a Super Walmart, and a Super Target, it's an extremely smart strategy. With careful meal planning and strategizing, $125 should be an easy target. If not, I'll just throw a bag of cat food in the cart for $30. It'll keep.

Mature leaves are very similar to holly leaves. Not sure what the baby ones look like.

Add some oysters to the catfood and pack some high-protein oyster stuffing into the turkey??? Grandma made oyster stuffing, sans the catfood. LOL

ETA: Aren't all canned foods required to be safe for human consumption by the USDA, including pet foods? Well, maybe not, anymore.

So far just filling the bin - bin night tonight.
But over the weekend I got a bunch of cuttings and seeds - Lavender mostly - don't know what these seeds are - grabbing things from the tip is called pot luck for a reason.
