What did you do in the garden today?

No photos from last night?! Here's just a couple of mine. It was very visible with the naked eye. You could see without a light on bright! And while they pulsed high and low all night, they exploded again about 530am!View attachment 4250239View attachment 4250240View attachment 4250241
Rain all afternoon and evening in Finger Lakes region. The overcast sky had a vague orange tint when I was up between midnight and one so I'm counting that as a win. Kinda. Maybe.

do you cook then puree them before canning them or do you cube them/cook, then can?
Cook them after removing the inside (seeds and stringy stuff) then remove from skin and stuff in a canning quart jar. Try to remove as many air pockets as you can and then pressure cook @10 PSI for 90 minutes.

Cutting down all the peonies today, getting those areas ready for mulch for the winter. Lots of leaves down after the frost, will get those chopped up when they dry a bit, and use them for my mulch in the orchard and around all 15 of the peonies. I use the chicken soiled straw far away from the house, and the leaves for up close here.

No kidding. They love to ruin things.... All the things! Between mice and rats... 😩
I've been hearing mice in the walls for the last week or so, like between 1am and 4am. Maybe they're somewhere else like in the crawl space, I just don't know for sure. I have a few old style snap traps set with fresh peanut butter now so hopefully I'll be getting some protein chicken treats soon.

My youngest daughter found a mouse. It wasn't moving too good so I got the BBQ tongs and picked it up and took it outside so I called the chickens and Peppa snatched it up and ran with it so I told my daughter that Peppa said thank you for the treat. She just about had a heart attack.

Did the other chickens take chase and try to get the mouse?

I once uncovered a nest of newborn mice in my chicken coop. The chickens grabbed them all and gobbled them up like they'd just discovered a treasure trove of bugs... It was horrifying and fascinating all at the same time.
