What did you do in the garden today?

Our dear sweet, gentle, blind in one eye since hatching, goofball Beta rooster Odie passed away in his sleep last night at the ripe old age of 5 (This flock of hens tends to be a handful). I'm so glad the afternoon yesterday turned out to be sunny and he got to wander the yard and eat a broken pumpkin and play with his hens one last time.
Thanks Odie.

Good luck to you on the drought! Hand watering is tedious, that’s one of the reasons I’m looking into an irrigation kit.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you!
Ironically I DO have an irrigation system but it's been winterized so no using it until spring. 🙄

The outdoor taps are frozen. a rare thing here. enjoying my wood stove inside, lol.
Ooohh outdoor taps frozen 🥶 very bad thing when you have ducks 🦆 it happens to me sometimes and I have to carry buckets. Like seven buckets a day uphill. Walking on ice. 🫣

I gave up on my previous stem lettuce seed trays that I originally started on a heat mat which probably killed them and started some stem lettuce seeds in a petri dish, and they sprouted tails after 4 days, so my seeds are still viable. I planted the sprouts in fine coco coir and left the dome hole open halfway under a grow light. Fingers crossed.

TSC was clearing out their Christmas stuff, including boxed bulbs. I went ahead and picked up 2 Calla lilies and 2 (more) hyacinth bulbs for indoor forcing.

I get the itchies from touching🪻 so I used an old ice cream scoop to move them from the boxes into the hourglass vases they came with. 😬
