What did you do in the garden today?

Our Snow dog has always been on the screen porch.
She has her pups there it is 25 here right now.
I would not have had pups out. Also had them sold before I would breed a litter.
There was no plan with this litter and we have 5.

I am worried about the newborn kits... Even though I keep telling myself they will be fine. She had them in the orange tub you see in the picture. It was packed with hay and she pulled a decent amount of fur, from the quick look I had. She blocked the entrance with dirt... I assume to keep them warmer. The pen is blocked from the wind on the north and west sides.... And the entire run is covered with a heavy duty tarp (provided it doesn't rip under snow weight). The downside of this setup is that I can't really add a heat lamp. I thought about a heating pad on low but afraid the adult buns might chew it or the cord...or that it will trip a breaker with all the de-icers and they will get chilled more easily.

I guess I just gotta wait it out and see what happens.

I hope they're all okay. I have been seeing a lot of stuff about the storms that are set to hit this weekend and it's not going to be good for anyone.

I pulled the last three daikon radishes out of the garden. The largest root was about 6 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter, and tasted no different to me than a regular red radish. Chickens got the tops.

I think she may have meant garden huckleberry. A solanum species.

I did, we call them bush berries. As opposed to true mountain huckleberries.

Has anyone ever made huckleberry ice cream? It's so good and the only place that I know that had it quit selling it

yep. I used my strawberry ice cream recipe and replace with huckleberries, and do a swirl of huckleberry jam. FUll fat custard base vanilla. I don't live in mountain berry country anymore, and those were the BEST. We can get HB ice cream down here. But it's not the same.

Given this upcoming snow storm and the wide variations in, and frequent changes in, predictions I’ve concluded we are witnessing what I like to refer to as ‘Weathercaster Orgasms’ play out before our very eyes.

Bitter cold and windy. No snow. Maybe snow early Sunday. Water heater sprung a leak. A pinhole in the tank. Had to go buy new. Installed already. Clerk said oh I just had mine replaced cost 2000. Under 400 for the new one. I told the wife what my work is worth. Helps when I buy animals, trees, plants and seeds.
