What did you do in the garden today?

My doe kindled again 2 days ago. Of course it's going to be down in the teens tonight and tomorrow night. Hoping the kits pull through... 🙏 🙏
She had them in a different tub that is smaller than the other one. She seems to be having some trouble getting the entrance covered like before which is, I think, what helped the first nest survive single digits. Really hoping the cold doesn't chill them.

I'm positive that I have had rabbit meat but I don't know what it tasted like or if I liked it. I don't know that I could process a rabbit for eating unless it meant the difference between living and dying.
It tasted like chicken, they used to sell frozen rabbit pieces at my local market, but that was over 20 years ago. I don't see them anymore.

It feels like winter. Warm weather spoiled me. I so want to grow something.
Mung Bean sprouts help me alot when i start feeling like this! They grow inside, they need total darkness (i do mine in a kitchen cabinet) and only take 5 days for big beautiful sprouts ready for a stir fry! It's about as close to instant gratification as you can get in gardening and it always scratches the itch to grow something for me! Haha

How long did it take and did you do anything to encourage them? My son has around two dozen he's started over the past couple of years. They range in size from just off the pineapple to over a metre tall and across. They come inside under lights until the weather is consistently above 50. We're hoping the largest, oldest three (at least) will send up shots this summer.

Congratulations on your babies. 🍍

All 5 of these came from 2 store-bought tops I rooted about 3 or 4 years ago. I naively thought they would fruit in their 2nd or 3rd year because that's what I read online. I tried REALLY HARD to get them to fruit last summer. I tried catching ethylene gas from a banana soaked in water. I tried apples in the crown. Nothing worked but my plants got huge. I debated just leaving them outside over the winter to die...but changed my mind and brought them indoors anyways. Two started flowering right before Christmas. The other 3 just started flowering this week. All have pups at the base to start a new plant once the fruit develops. Can't wait... This is the first time I've had any finally produce fruit!

I have 3 other pineapple plants still growing. Two are specialty varieties I bought online. The third is one that came from one of the original tops. It got enormous... But I realized this winter that the main stem was rotted from some fungal disease. I was going to throw it out but saw a pup coming up from the root ball so I kept it.

Edited to add - I highly recommend growing them in 5 gallon buckets. I feel like they didn't have enough room the first 2 years when I had them in smaller containers.
