What did you do in the garden today?

Still waiting till March 19th which is about 6 to 8 weeks before typical last frost date to start all my produce seeds, but my slow starting herbs and perennial flowers and peppers and potatoes are off to a great start!

Was flipping my compost pile over to an adjacent spot and found several potatoes sprouted at the bottom of the pile. How did they survive all the negative temps we've had this winter I will never know! I replanted them, those tough little buggars deserve a chance to grow, lol. Got all my seeds planted and under the grow lights yesterday, and working on making the potting soil now. I plant tons of things in pots on the back patio and on the deck, everything I want that won't fit in the garden. And I always want way way more than will fit : ) .

I bought an 8 pack of this Cattle Drive Gold Chili with beans from my local Costco a while ago and just tried them with a spicy beef sausage the other day. I was impressed with the quality and taste of this chili brand. I usually go to my local Zippy restaurant to order chili, but now I can just open a can.

A favorite at my house is Stagg Dynamite Hot. But then canned chili is only used on grilled hot dogs - topped with cheese and melted under the broiler.

For straight up chili, I cannot remember the last time it wasn't homemade. I'm honestly not even sure it was this century.

I just ordered these seed cubes from amazon. I think they were about 20 cents each and it comes in a 150-count box. I like how they are sliced on the side.

That looks like the material used in the Aero Garden. It never breaks down. Which I suppose is a good thing for hydroponics. I hope they work for you.

Carefully transplant, that's the problem for me. I'm so clutzy! I just throw the seeds in seed starting mix, no heat mat, no humidity cover, just plant them 1/4 inch down. They come up the same time as the tomatoes. Still have to thin them since I plant 2 seeds in each cell, and that's where the clutzy issue comes in again, lol.
Have to add that the spare bedroom I start them in is excessively warm, that's probably why I don't need heat lamps.

So happy you found a set up that works for you. Oh, to have a spare room.

wait longer before you transplant them. I usually transplant when the stalks are thick and purplish. no damage then.

I thinned my pepper seedlings today. The seeds I started on Monday are starting to come up already. 4 days, a few varieties of tomatoes, tomatillos, and the basil already has true leaves emerging.

I need to plant my potatoes.

21 when I got up and 60 now. 67 predicted. Opened the sunshine mix. Very little sticks in it. I saw a video some time ago about potting mix industry. It said as the price of sphagnum increased they started adding forrest products. That is why you find bark and stick pieces.
