I am about 1 month away from expecting my first eggs ever.
Would like to know your reactions when you first saw them and what did you do with them. I think I might get so excited I would break them.

Most folks post photos on BYC to show them off. Some blow out the first ones and decorate the shells. I would imagine someone or other may even want to' bronze' them like baby shoes.

Others rush to eat them and brag how much better they taste than store bought. If you do some thing truly novel with yours be sure to let us know.

I have had chickens for a about a year. I raised my first from two days old. I was so excited when I got the first egg, I could hardly contain myself. I fried it up and took a bite, I posted on Face Book. I was a little nervous as I didn't cook it thoroughly, so I thought. I cooked it the same as a store bought egg but was a little nervous with the first home grown egg. Since then I have eaten countless eggs without any issue.
After the first one didn't see another for a couple of weeks. Now getting plenty. Eleven chickens giving me 35-50 a week.

I posted picks of them on here. Once the chickens are at the age and display all the signs that they will lay soon, the anticipation is almost unbearable. It was a relief to get the first eggs because it seemed like it justified all the time, effort, and money spent building a coop and brooder, and all the supplies that go into raising chickens from day old chicks. I now get about 10 eggs a day.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I was definitely excited the first time I got an egg (about 50 years ago). The first thing I did was cook it and eat it and brag about how good it tasted.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting those first eggs.

First egg?? I took a picture and shared it here then waited until we had more to make omelets. Thank for joining and bringing back a memory!

When I found our first egg I was totally shocked, lol. It was like a little miracle and so pretty (came from our Easter Egger). First I took a picture of it and then we ate it. Best tasting egg I've ever had! Here it is (thanks for giving me an excuse to show it off again):

One of my BYC buddies took her 1st eggs, blew them out and made Christmas ornaments out of them. Very pretty.

Good luck to you with your flock and best wishes for many eggs to come!

Our first egg? We're so excited we auctioned it on eBay. LOL.
It was late August last year when we got ours, We put it in a basket and took hundred of photos of it. We waited till we have a few and invited friends to do a taste test comparison with store bought - they all became our weekly customers/competitor with our fresh organic unwashed eggs.
