What did you do with your flock today?

Mine literally run away from beets! They loathe them. Pity as we love them and I hate wasting the leaves and skins.
I grow beets for the greens rather then the roots. The leaves taste delicious ❤️. Not too unlike spinach, you just have to discard the stem as the plant ages. It gets tough. A neighbor asked if he could have the roots the one year but by the time I'm done harvesting leaves, the roots turned to wood and it's seeding 😬. Our tortoise and old goat would still eat it though. I'll pull a few young enough to eat the root.

Piggie gets to go to the vet again this morning. Got him into a harness last night as the sanctuary people suggested. Wow that was something else. Piggie was handled so gently...and he screamed and screamed. So we sat on the porch together after until we could both breathe easy again.

Then I was able to pick him up without a panicky struggle from him. He spent the night inside so I wouldn't have to terrorize him at 4am to have him at the vets in time for his appointment.

It seems to have done him some good though, he's actually less afraid afterwards and spent some time at the front of the crate just watching me instead of staying as far back as he can. He got a little molasses bread to help him feel better too...wow he likes that stuff 😄

I'm living vicariously through you.... with out the screaming and 4 am travel to vet 😂😂😂. So far it is really fun! 🐖🩷

Besides the addition of more feeders and watering stations I'm adding roosting bars for the little ones (9 weeks old) now so when they get a bigger coop they know what the roosts are for.
Good for you! Platform's for the waterers are liberating. Right there with saucers under feeders. What to do with all that spare time now 🤔?!!! 😂😂😂 make more roosts!? I'm sure your time will get filled, maybe with kamakazi chickens 🐔💕.

I added a 8 foot roosting bar in the run so all 8 birds can roost if wanted. They seem to like it, 2 on it before I got out of the run.
That must feel good. 😉👍
I got littles still sleeping in the nest box and girls slow to roost. Roost space sounds wonderful ♡

I have holes everywhere in my garden bed from them breaking and entering.
Hose.

In other words I feel your pain. Chickens are so relentless. The more you value your garden, the more relentless. I gave up and planted fruit trees. So far, it was a good call. I don't want to always be mad at my chickens.
