What did you do with your flock today?

That's so awful! I really wish people would take better care of their dogs and be responsible owners, not let them run wild, dump the dogs when they've had enough etc.

Seriously. I had a gorgeous Pit Bull/American Bulldog and he was always on a tether. It was pretty much insane considering I am the smallest person in my family and when anyone tried to make him do anything he just looked at them like you're dumb. I would have to ask them if they were done being stupid and let me take care of my dog. He would sit where I would snap my fingers and point to. Training animals especially dogs is so easy just as long as the owners are not too lazy to do it.

Poop patrol today. Answer me this. Do roosters only mount hens that are laying, or are they indiscriminate?

I'd definitely say indiscriminate...I've had them try to mount my foot soooo...just a guess

I agree. Dogs seem to live to please us and all they ask is a little love, kibble and the chance to be good. But they do need us to tell them what our idea of a good dog is.

Tomorrow we get a new flock member! I know nothing about her other than she's an ex-battery hen who was saved from battery cages just 4 months ago. She was re-homed along with 9 other ladies and is the only survivor of a really nasty fox attack. She's been pretty traumatised, shut down and apparently very lonely on her own.
DH's friend texted him about her yesterday. He keeps hens too but didn't want to take her on as he's only had them a short time and doesn't think he has enough experience. He thought of me as I've kept ex-batts.
DH said he really debated whether to tell me or not but decided he would because if I found out afterwards, he didn't want to face my wrath. Sensible man.

My neighbor called early this morning to tell us the killer dog was outside one of my coops. By the time I got outside he was gone. Maybe he remembered how that pellet stung his backside the when he was messing around the coops. My neighbor has put pellets on him more than once for killing one of his cats.

This poor hens terrible luck has turned. Bless your heart. I look forward to meeting her and hearing the antics.

Hate to think how your spoiled rotten flock is going to react to a newcomer but again, look forward to hearing the stories of the antics. Bravo @Shetland lover

I gathered enough new eggs from the Breese, Dark Cornish, and White Giants to have enough to start a hatch going tonight. I should be watching little ones come out into the open about the 11th-12th of November is my chicken math is right on this.

I've been letting my chickens out to forage for about a half hour every evening lately, right before I lock them up for the night. Not today.

I mixed up some wet layer pellets and got them all into their overnight quarters, then locked them up for the night early, around 3PM. Hope they're not mad at me. Haha

When out in the Dark Cornish coop I found evidence on the side near the top of the coop where a predator had tried to break in. The tarp was ripped bad in 2 places. The lower place had a layer of wire under the tarp next to the cattle panel. Higher up there is no wire and now a large gaping hole in the tarp with nothing but cattle panel. A hens and the 2 roos are present and accounted for. Tomorrow I hope to get help to add more wire to the top and put a new tarp on. I need another Black & Tan Coon Hound to protect the kids inside an electric fence. I have posts, wire, and a driver. Missing is the manpower to do it.

Let mine out about a hour before dark to enjoy some untrampled yard, maybe find some bugs, grubs or other goodies. My newest birds barley left the run area while my older birds went almost to the property line (house is in the middle of about 3 acres)
