What did you do with your flock today?

Today I will be taking one of my Golden comets to the vet. I'm nervous. She got surgery for a very bad prolapse (oviduct AND rectum) on Monday, and the vet will be removing her stitches today.

It is a bit too soon and I'm worried that she could prolapse again. But according to the vet, if she produces an egg and her vent is still stitched, it is a death sentence. So in that sense, it's preferable that she gets another prolapse.

Best case scenario, the tissues will be held in place without the stitches and her body will be wise enough to stop production. We don't have hormones for that so I'm basically just keeping her in the dark and praying. She needs to heal and I'm afraid that her high rate of egg production won't let her.

Please do not ever let me have layers again, lol
Will be thinking of you and your sweet chicken and hoping that she is able to heal ❤️ I am so sorry you have to go through this!

Good morning all! Much and more of the same here today. Waters, feed, scrape and sew. Glad to have more chickens in my day forsure. Amazing the joy they give me just by existing.
Flock got to yard wander yestereve. A papaya hit the ground so they got a bonus favorite snack!

I had a early appointment in town yesterday and rode Boo in. What a great ride and what a great day! Met so many terric gals randomly, total girl day 🩷. I forgot how fun my gender can be.

Also got a new sensor and relay in the mail yesterday, so get to play mechanic today. Hope this solves Boos turn signal problem, 🤞 this is it?

Also, time to do some footwork for my DHs birthday. It's a big one this year. I can't believe how old everyone but me is getting 😂😂😂 strangest phenomenon
I agree, just their existence brings so much joy to my world!

I too have experienced this strange phenomenon!! It's crazy

They are all such pretty birds 😍😍😍
I especially like your mottled d'anvers hen. She has such a knowing look in her eyes.
Thanks! Yeah, Oreo has been special since she hatched and I think you can definitely see it in her eyes. :love She was so teeny tiny and stayed teeny tiny for months! I was sure she wouldn't make it but she was so confident and acted like she could handle herself and was always eating and drinking like a normal bird, so I had hope for her! Right before the pictures I took, she was yelling at me quite loudly and bossily! :D

Have you ever seen dirt move? Parathesia strikes again! Those nasty mites! I found more of them in the 2 window tracks and between the plexiglass movable panes. So, I figured that since rubbing alcohol and water kills spider mites, I made a concoction with that, dish soap, and essential oils. Cinnamon, peppermint, basil, tea tree. Sprayed everywhere I could find cracks, crevices, etc. I am keeping my fingers crossed. It's too wet and cold to be scrubbing down a coop right now.
It's getting colder now, and rainier. I pretty much don't let them out when it's rainy, as some of them will play in the rain. My Blue Sapphires are molting without the classic exploding pillow syndrome. New, shiny feathers are growing in between the old, dirty ones, and no real raggedy look, unlike the Welsummers and BSLs. It's going to be in the high 30's at night.
Silly me left a small bucket with 8 eggs out on my upstairs deck, and I came home tonight to scattered egg shells, egg white puddles and only one egg left intact. The bandits 🦝had a snack. Those are precious this time of the molting season.
I love your spray concoction.
I use 90% vinegar and 10% dish soap. Works terrific.

Good morning all. Another happy day waking up to chickens for me!
Almost all creatures are cared for, cept horse... and DH. Gotta take him to town for doc appointment 😖. He is actually going to drive on the way there! I'm going for quick and efficient footwork. Getting there. 4 weeks into this fiasco 🙄
