What did you do with your flock today?

I'm not sure who is the tiredest me or the kids. It's a very cold for us and very windy today. Ma and I are in no condition to be out there building like we need to at the moment. Thought I like to share a video from out of the past that makes me smile and feel better. If it was not on camera it would be hard to believe.

:love:love:love

I'll have to read about those. I had no idea that ivermectin can help with mites too...that's good to know. Such a versatile medicine. I've used it to treat a rabbit with a crooked neck before. I'm too tired to remember what the parasite was in that...but ivermectin worked a treat. Doesn't sound likely to be worms for your Penelope though with all you do, but I'll hope it is anyway just because that's something treatable. How's your sweety doing?
She's much improved today, thankfully! No more just sitting in her box, dozing. She's been pottering round in the house, getting into mischief.
Her flock besties, Gladys and Stan, came in to visit with her earlier. Somehow, they found the millet spray stash and ransacked it while I was off doing something else. There was millet all over the kitchen floor and they were stood in the middle of it with that "it wasn't me" look on their faces. Except for Gladys of course, she doesn't give a flying fig 🤣
Anyhow, I decided if Penelope could get up to mischief, she was well enough to spend a few hours outside with the flock. I'll bring her back in for the night when I let big brother Ferdy in for the.v and snuggles. It's homemade veggie pizza and sides tonight so I'll get her in no problem.

So happy they're all doing well now. You certainly have the healing touch!
After Elliot ate 30 metres of cotton thread and had his bowel resection, we gave him lactulose daily for the first week post surgery to keep his bowel movements soft and regular. Maybe that or something like it might help any hard poops for the last baby? Or a drop of extra virgin olive oil in it's formula?
Also, until DH put a stop to it - it creeped him out, Elliot used to nurse on my earlobe post feed as a very young kitten. I didn't mind, he was obviously missing his mom and it clearly comforted him.
Hope you got a decent rest ❤️
O poor Elliot! That must have been a scary time 😨. These keep trying to suckle my fingers but everything is too big for their little mouths still 🤣. Silly hubby getting creeped out...i think that's adorable!

Last babies had a wonderful big poo and all's well ❤️. The day after last baby came, a woman I know came and got the little tuxedo baby. She's been sending me updates and pictures and that babies doing well. This is a picture from last night:

The two I have are also doing well. The one with the injured tail is named Boo...my oldest kids baby name. She's fat, sassy and energetic. The last baby they brought is named Tink...my youngest kids baby name. I did tell hubby it'd be best to find them forever moms to raise them right? 😂😻 I am still trying to keep reminding myself that I should find them homes and let go when they're old enough...but, I named them which does usually means my heart says stay. I don't always listen to my heart, so we'll see down the road. Anyhow, Tink is also doing well. She's still a bit skinny, but her tummy is fat and full, she's had a good poo and I expect her to catch up fast.

They're little balls of restless energy when they're not eating or sleeping. Think all 3 are going to make it... they're all past the drama of their birth and it's routine care now. O they are lovable! ❤️

Everything else here is just the basics of life. I have someone coming today to buy some Hamburg chicks. Hoping they take most of what I have left from filling the incubator when Biscotti's egg was in there. 🤞 Biscotti is doing wonderful. He's a darling little bird. ❤️

I'm so glad to hear the pampering helped ❤️❤️❤️ Every little uptick is always a pleasure!

I kept my 3 big pet boys in today. Rocky doesn't have sense enough to roost in a place out of the wind and Legs is getting to be to big and heavy for me to take him in and our of where he roosts and Mr Muff just needed the cuddle time extra today inside. I cannot believe how big and heavy Legs is for only a few days over 7 months old.

My heart would definitely be saying 'stay' as well 💓
I don't know how you have the strength to let them go, even if it's to a 5 star home. It's a good job DH is sensible and practical or we'd be knee deep in fur and feathers by now 😄

It makes my heart sing to know they are doing so well.

I got up this morning to a huge pile of poop from Penelope. It was bigger than any broody poop I've ever seen. There were 5 or 6 lumps of a pinkish-red, fleshy material (almost like raw chicken thigh) scattered amongst it. It wasn't quite like salpingitis tissue (my big worry given her past laying issues) but I have seen similar matter in poop photos following the expulsion of roundworm. Given that she started to pick up so soon after the ivermectin, I'm praying that's been what's ailing her. Hopefully now it's just a case of fattening her up!

I checked the store for produce scraps today and picked up a big box of greens. Slightly wilted bunches of curly kale and collards and trimmings from Chinese cabbage heads. All stuff the girls love!

I chopped up some of the Chinese cabbage leaves and tied a few bunches of kale and collards together with a big rubber band so it was easier for them to rip off bites.

I bought 5 loaves of the cheap sandwich bread that I use for treats for the kids that run wild around the farm. I usually have a slice in my pocket for the little beggars when I go outside.
I bet you're just like the Pied Piper! I can just see you wandering your property with a long line of featherbabies toddling along behind.... 😄

Why do all birds love bread so much? Mine are little buggers for it. And much to Ferdy's annoyance, my new bird friend (a juvenile male blackbird) adores any home made bread I send his way.
