What did you do with your flock today?

Got my long wondered question answered today. How do deer react to poultry? It was an interesting sight XD Geese kept their distance but chickens didn't seem to care as a few got really close lol

Good morning gang! I made it back a few pages on my little phone, def tries my patience with losing pages when I respond, plus big HD adds.
All is well in my spot of the world. Wind has lessened - yippee! - and the morning brings partial clouds with cool temps.
In chicken world reporting, I am happy to say all chooks have been very good with the exception of Mazzie. She has been enjoying sand breaks a lot. She is old and deserves them, but it is just another reminder that all of my favorite chickens won't last forever 🙁.
After my big losses the last few months, I am able to enjoy a more settled flock now. Demanding, but settled. View attachment 3741739I collected 18 eggs yesterday, granted 2 were from ferals donating. Those are the little eggs we have been enjoying. Rest are for sale or give.
Spider really goes the extra mile to keep feral roos out of the yard/coop/run, while keeping the feral girls in. Also, being sure his favorites eat the best, first. View attachment 3741740View attachment 3741746Everything is growing, blooming and fruiting like crazy. Fruit is bringing lots of flies, gnats etc.

Every 2 weeks I  got get to do a heavy trim

Chooks are eating so much fruit I worry about the shells on their eggs. Gotta slow the fruit intake down. Love to say I was saving on feed, but ... 🫤 View attachment 3741793
Waste not, want not. We have been having shipping issues again so feed is what you get, and today, we have a layer crumble that does not do well in this feeder. Bad chickens picking through the feed.
I put out about 12 homemade fly traps.View attachment 3741783
The cost was close to $10 instead of $60.

Last 2 fosters - Waihona and Marsha - aren't that friendly, but we will get there... somewhere safe and good ♡View attachment 3741809
Adding a regular morning feed to my schedule, along with my fill-ins for the colonies. It will kick the snot outta me but it is oh so beautiful and rewarding.

K. Thats my world and I gotta get after it. Have a safe and terrific day all!!!
Just too beautiful for words 😍 ❤️ 💕

All doing woooonderful ❤️! The kitties have turned me into their happy slave 🤣. Boo is curled up under my sweater on my shoulder and Tinks snuggled into a little ball in my lap right now. I should go do the final kitchen tidy for the night...but that'd disturb my little babies during one of the rare moments when they're both content at the same time 😂🥰🤗😜 Not sure if I've shared these pics yet since they're not from today...but Boos the face and Tinks the stretched out one. I've let hubby know I want to keep them, so now he's calling them chickens  😂.View attachment 3742321View attachment 3742322

Biscotti is definitely looking more like a hen these days but I'm stubbornly still hoping 😂🤪. I can't imagine anything but hen with her now to be honest though. I have a couple small boys she'll do well with though. She's sweet as a button. ❤️View attachment 3742324

Splitting headache tonight for some reason... time to go close my eyes til it passes 🥴
Look at those babies! They are all so adorable 😍 😍 😍. So good to hear you're following your heart with the kitties 😸

Biscotti looks fantastic, I love that black stripe on the back of her neck. It's just adorable!

Now Stan is indoors! He's somehow managed to rip a toenail off entirely. I only noticed this morning when I picked him up for his weekly health check. It doesn't seem to be bothering him unless I press the side of it - which bothers me a little as I'm sure it should be hurting more than he's admitting to. Anyway, I've soaked, cleaned and disinfected it. I've applied antibiotic powder but I can't make a dressing stay on it so he's indoors for a day or two to keep it clean and dry.
I'm becoming convinced my flock is conspiring to take over the house 😒

We know what the saying is. Dogs have owners, cats have staff. Hope your headache goes away soon.

Starfruit, soursop, oranges and #9 mangoes are close!
Seymour really is terrific but tries to strangle me on my way into the run when I collect eggs and replenish stocks. It does get old getting beat up by a plant 😂 but I still love him. I mean, a great problem to have right?!

Where are you headed for your holiday and when are you headed out? You excited?!! 😄
Oh, to enjoy some of my favorite fruit. Looks like I must plan a trip home in February. Going to cruise Bahamas and Key West. Friday

I think Ferdy and Penelope are telling them about the great mini all inclusive hotel with fantastic service, fine dining and spa treatments, and the way to get a booking.

Welp. Don't hear chicken people being sad about a pullet much, lol, but I know you have the ability to pray for roosters.
Sorry pal, but she is absolutely stunning 😍 so, sorry, not sorry? 😂
My goodness, the kitty ninjas are official family now?!! Makes sense. Send one off to college, gotta fill the gap. I'd say a 2 kitty gap is fair ♡♡

Ready to pull out hair....coop mites found yesterday. I concocted a spray with Dawn, citric acid, Essential oils of cinnamon bark, thyme, and lemon eucalyptus, olive oil and warm water. Read that detergents dissolve their waxy coat, as well as Coca Cola (citric acid?), and the 3 oils have eugenol. I probably used a total of 100+ drops in the 16 oz., covered the bottom of the spray bottle with dawn, mixed, put about a Tbsp. of citric acid in another jar with warm water, mixed, and added to the sprayer along with a good squirt of oil. The mites aren't supposed to be as active now, but they have been. My poor Onyx has been feeding them, as she is the only one roosting in there.
When I went and sprayed, they literally came out of the woodwork where I hadn't seen them before. Got fingers crossed.
Here's the after sprayed photos
Note not to use this kind of wood, or seal it with wax or paint? I try not to use chemicals, but hopefully this works.
