This morning's tasks on chick duty. Clean and refill water (repurposed hummingbird feeder) change out the mason jar feeder to the long red plastic one which I had screwed down onto a 2x4 awhile back. Those mason jar feeders are too shallow, and a lot of feed comes out. Yesterday I had it in a paper towel lined plant tray, and there was a lot of food which is now salvaged. Yesterday, I had to add the other clump of grass, because they were all crowding onto the one. They sure found it quickly to explore and play in. Chickie see, chickie do. They are not monkeys,

I also locked the big girls in, as we are expecting a wet couple days, and those silly girls will play in heavy rain, oblivious of the fact that they are getting wet.
Is it unusual for chicks to seem to not need the hotter temps as recommended for brooding on several info pages I've read? These seem happier at day 4 with around an 82-84 air temp, and I'd seen them move away from the lamp warmed area when it came on, and sleep on the outskirts.
