What did you do with your flock today?

Poor boys is right! I always feel bad for the roosters! So many are just good boys that are unappreciated 😞

I have used the top three best antibiotics for CRD…Baytril I used in November, Tylan is what they’ve been on the past week and a half, and now they are getting Denagard. I read that Denagard is the only antibiotic that CRD does not build a resistance to, even after many years of use. It’s not always the strongest, but sounds like it’s decently effective. I have found Tylan to be the least effective, but the best for direct injection. The bubble eyes I’m treating with alcohol wipes followed by Terramycin. I’m a regular chicken pharmacy!! Newbell still looks under the weather, but she ate today and drank water so that makes me content for the day anyway!
Good to know, thanks!
Well today was another alright day with the Indigo Chicks! 😁 We had a bit of rain but afternoon dried out and the sun shined for a bit! All the chickens seemed pretty close to normal today too—with the exception of Newbell who's eyes are still bubbling. However! This afternoon she was foraging some and eating and drinking and making her usual dino noises. So I take this as a good sign.

Had to share a few pictures…Betty seems less than thrilled about the rain 😆 Puff is starting to look like a handsome man, Fluff wanted to say HI, Molly has decided to be my constant companion (and pecks at EVERYTHING), and Elinor is clearly in the lead as favorite chicken…she is laying quite consistently! 😁

And Miyuki is getting more comfortable here every day! Kitten zoomies!

Thank you!! I too am super happy for a few days relief! I love seeing my chickens happy and healthy! 🥰

You were right in your chicken name assessments :) The dark blue girl is Molly and she is the bravest and most friendly of the bantam Cochin clan. She is so pretty and I’ve been working on getting her to STOP pecking at everything on me! She’s funny too, cuz she will fly up on my shoulder, walk all over me, and perch on my hand while I walk…but if I pet her? She’s over it and runs away 😆 Her sister Polly is almost prettier too! I call her Polly Pocket because she’s super tiny, but she’s just very sleek and dark. Not many pictures of her either because she’s very camera shy!

And yeah, Miyuki has definitely already provided a lot of entertainment and humor 😍
I love your birds! Poor Betty looks ridiculous. XD
Miyuki is adorable. 😍

I didn't realize she was a bantam in the first photo you posted of her. She looks large and plump there LOL. But yes...I can see on the recent photos that they're both teeny. Sooooo cute! I love them!

The black bantam at the humane society got adopted. Of course it was right as my mom and I were discussing driving over to pick her up. :/
I’m glad she’s no longer in there, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed. With her gone, I don’t think I can adopt the silkie, either. Phil doesn’t seem like she’ll be around for very much longer, so it would be stupid to get her a friend just to have to deal with it all over again when Phil’s gone.

On a different note, I’ve been looking into silkie chicks. Since we still don’t know if the silkie at the HS is a pullet or not, mom said that if we had to take a chance we might as well get babies. XD I still don’t know if we’re actually going to get them or not, but we’ve been toying with the idea.

This morning I finished painting one of my birds. I’ve been wanting to do it for a few months now, but never got around to it.

Here’s all three of them together. From left to right there’s Watson, Irene/Renie, and then Molly.

Happy Saturday all! It is finally a beautiful day! Sunny, blue skies, soft breeze and high of 57. I’m LOVING it and so are the chickies and the old lady Frenchie! 😍

Betty White is so happy it’s nice out, she finally laid her first egg since early November. Everyone is sun bathing, dust bathing and foraging while happily chattering with each other. It’s so lovely. And Newbell is being her usual loud self, preening, foraging, and eating treats. I’ve been out with them for over an hour and it feels amazing 😻 Hope you are all having a great day as well!

Ahhhh that’s too bad about the sweet little bantam girl! It is good she found a home but better if it had been YOUR home! She was so pretty! 😍

I think your plans for Silkie babies sounds awesome! If/when I expand someday, I am soooo getting lots more silkies hehe. If you get some, you will have to post lots of pics!

You are really very talented! I wish I could paint that well! 😍😍 Love!!

Huge breakthrough this evening. DH and I went for a drive with the neighbors and got back about 10 minutes past time to put the flock up for the evening. So I got out of the vehicle and first thing I did was go to round up the birds and put them to "bed". But when I got out there, every single bird had already gotten into the run. Even the guineas. All I had to do was say "awesome job everyone!" and close the run door. Woohoooo!
