What did you do with your flock today?

Aloha gang!
Oh my gosh, it was so hot today. Almost summertime miserable yucky hot 🄵 Chooks were panting past sundown and that makes me sad.
Around 1 I turned on sprinklers and a hose so they could look for bugs while their feet got wet under the shade of a tree. The adopted chunky monkeys were Iike what the heck, what kind of holiday is this?!! So I made a big puddle in the shade for them too and i think they forgave me. My Buff Roo looks like he may try a little romance with them and I would like to hatch out a Cornish x Buff Brahma if possible. If they can survive Kekaha heat šŸ˜– or he can manage to not fall off. They are actually pretty sweet girls just hella F A T.
Well, hope tomorrow is not as hot. It is mid March right? :barniešŸŒ“ā˜€ļø

Babies are a friendly and trusting batch. They line up and let me grab them for the transfer to the play brooder and then back to sleeping brooder in the eves. Like pick me! Pick me! So cute ♔♔♔ but pretty soon they will outgrow our game and I am not sure where I will house them. Maybe a dog cage, maybe my light b's who are just hitting pol will all move themselves to the big coop and solve my problem for me.

I need to set a few eggs in 3 weeks for the grand kids visit at the end of April. Definitely up to my eyeballs in chickens ā™”

I've been using the pitchfork to overturn some pathes of dirt for the birds to hunt for worms. The boys go crazy calling the ladies over. Lionel Richie found a big fat grub in a pile of leaves yesterday and spent 5 minutes tossing it and calling for the girls to come. They ignored him because of his behavior that won him his name ("all night long"). But he was finally acting a little like a good roo should and getting food for his ladies. I felt a little sorry for him, so I got a red and placed her 2 feet away from where he was doing his "I found food" ritual. She just rolled her eyes and walked away. Poor Lionel Richie. But he brought this on himself.

Yep. Weather is weird this year here too. Low of 16 on Friday. 80 degrees yesterday. 4 days apart. I don't mind the heat much at all. It's the accompanying snakes that I dont like about the warming days. So, my snake boots have officially been taken out of winter storage and will be worn no matter how hot it is until snake season has ended and winter returns again.

I witnessed something I thought would never happen. I have a mixed flock ranging from Seramas to half English Orpingtons. I have a Serama rooster, who I thought was incapable of mating. I've had Tobias for 6 months and he has shown some interest in the ladies (bigger ladies) but never the Serama hens. So yesterday, I see Tobias chasing down, multiple times, my Brahma Banty hen Goldilocks. He pinned her down and did his thing! To add, Goldilocks does not like to be mated. As the day progressed, I see in the corner of my eye, he did it with my Serama hen! Then this morning.. Golidlocks again!

This might seem silly but I am SO proud of my Tobias. Thought he was broken. :lau
