What did you do with your flock today?

Well, not today but yesterday- I bathed and marked the boys from the girls in our silkie kids so I can take them to a farm this weekend.
I have not yet posted the gender reveal on Facebook but I am sure my husband and I will have fun with that also. After five children it should invoke an interesting response.
It’s a girl!
It’s a boy!

Opened the chicken run under the coop this morning before opening the pop door. The big girls walked over to newly opened area like they do every morning to stare longingly at the delicious greenery that has been out of reach. They picked at a few grasses on the edge and then the light bulb came on. They could go out there! The little kids joined them and it's been fun watching them enjoy the new space. To celebrate I gave them an ear of fresh corn. Party time!

They are so cute together! Does introducing novel objects keep them happier? Grass is exciting to mine at their young age, but thinking of adding fun items to the tractor in the future.

I think it depends. I haven’t really noticed a difference in my current flock, but that could be because they’re older and they free range, so I’d like to think they’re already really happy.
When they’re young they seem to get really excited over new things, and it’s always really cute to watch. What kind of things do you plan to add?

i listen to a lot of chicken podcasts that suggest chicken swings, but am considering novelty items to hang from the rafters if they're safe. My bird experience is with pets and wildlife, so thinking treat dispensing ball filled with their regular crumble and hanging ball for greens, maybe...

Nice! I’ve never tried a chicken swing. It seems kinda cool though. My first few chickens had a pecker recker. That was a really long time ago though, so I can’t remember if they liked it or not. It probably scared them, but they were pretty young. XD
My chickens and ducks love it when I hang up heads of lettuce/kale. It’s normally picked clean in a few hours. :p
