Throw some feeder comet goldfish in to eat the mosquito larvae? Sounds like here, when you are told you can't do anything to the wetlands on your property because of some threatened or endangered frog, snail, etc.The only thing I can think of is a retaining wall to keep the water where you want it, or fill dirt to raise the ground level higher then the waterline in the areas you don't want it.
Do you know what kind of tadpoles? And does protected mean you can't do much to change the spot? It sounds kinda fun having that on your property...except for mosquitoes or loss of freedom to change things....
Bet ducks would go crazy for the spot!![]()
I know I would be down for it. Most people around us though don’t have many chickens. Most of them JUST have hens.Maybe all the chick hatchers around and near you could get together and have a vaccination party to share the cost of it, then there wouldn't have to be so much waste.
I'm with you on the theories on chickens stopping egg laying. I haven't had any of the issues that some people have theorized to be a feed change by TSC or Purina. I have used Dumor, Producer's Pride, and now with 2 males, Purina homegrown mixed flock 18% protein. The waning of egg production is typical and normal during molts, amount of light hours, etc. My chickens eat any kind of feed, and happily eat oyster shell. Guess I have non picky eaters. All the dusty feed gets to become mash, which they gobble up.Oh thank you for the feed back! I have read very similar and just terrific reviews about this feed ♡♡♡ Sadly.... it would cost me $53 to get a #40 bag here via Amazon. Good news is they were out or would not send lol.
I believe the dust is from grain mites and handling and yep. A frustrating waste of feed. We get a lot of that here especially this late in the growing season.
Not buying into the conspiracies either, don't live on the mainland or have a TSC (whew!). I did have a few fellow chicken pals ask me why their chickens were not giving eggs- girls were well over 2yo, molting, was winter and we had just had a decent storm the week b4. Same question from my neighbor w/2yo BR's- I think it is a great time to worm the flock and then put them on vitamins and let them happily bounce back IMO ♡
I have been using a delicious Nutrina Naturewise layer pellet for a few months now. Think I will gladly have to stay happy with that. Small pellet (love that!) and smells great ♡
Just a thought. Could you load the needles with the cold vax, and just let those warm up, so you don't have to warm the whole bottle? Then you'd have more for the next dose, and beyond. Needles are relatively cheaper than the vax. I had to buy insulin needles for my dog at one time, and they weren't expensive. It does. This was the mg-bac vaccine so you warm to 72 then use with in two hours. I knew I had to either wait until my incubators are empty or do two rounds and they recommend two rounds. So I ordered two at once so only one shipping cost.
Editing to add I ordered through Jeffers because I had a coupon. Overnight shipping was $25
Thank you!!Oh I just LOVE that!!! Good job!!!
Your rooster sounds very amusing!Well, finally caught up on your news. Yay, Sam brought me a mole present the other day. I threw it to the chickens to watch the keep away game commence. One less mole, more to be caught. That trap still hasn't caught any.
Refilled feeders, as I can now do just once a week. No more rat tunneling activity since treadle feeders installed. Trying something by putting the nipple bucket on top of the heated water base, instead of using the one that came with it, which is awkward to fill and turn over, while spilling a lot of water out. We're expecting below freezing Temps from Tuesday night until Sunday. I just have to fill the bucket back up every other day or so, if this works to keep the water liquid. It's a blustery day today, gusts up to 40+. Power flickered, hope it doesn't go out.
Funny story, while feeder filling, I was carrying the bag, which has a rooster on it. Cock E got excited and started posturing and rushing the bag. Better than my leg. I take a stick in with me now, which he runs from, instead of charging me. DH got a kick out of that.
@tropical Babies inspired me, so now I have started making bags, so that they don't end up in the landfill. They do take a bit of time to put together. I can't imagine making 100's. I gave one to my regular customers, who was tickled.
Yes, all standard. If your bantam aren't at 1.8# weight to open the feeder, I've read that you can add a counterweight to make up the difference. Just hope the rats don't weigh more than your bantams.Your rooster sounds very amusing!
I’m glad your treadle feeder seems to be working!! Do you have all standard size chickens? I feel like the tiny bantams would struggle with those?
OMGeeze!!! It looks like a little tiny house! A day they look so adorable sitting in there like they are havin a tea party!I forgot to post final picturesTurned out well!
Well funny thing...I'm sitting here listening to probably millions of the little slick turds croaking right now!Throw some feeder comet goldfish in to eat the mosquito larvae? Sounds like here, when you are told you can't do anything to the wetlands on your property because of some threatened or endangered frog, snail, etc.
Hope you can find a solution. Tadpoles turn into frogs, eventually.
