What did you do with your flock today?

Man we have gotten some serious rain last eve and today. Waialeale 13.34" think we must have been in the 5" range here at home... maybe. What ever it was it was a lot and more to come.
Think I have another new layer today... just have not found her egg yet lol.
*** found first egg in main coop 👍👍👍

After my thread crisis the last few weeks I got my thread order today. Probably never worry about thread again. I have never seen such a big beautiful thread thing.View attachment 3412291
It is seriously THAT BIG. 1.5 lbs lol

I keep forgetting to get a photo b4 I pick. Such a terrific tree.
Now, that is some serious thread..Please eat some papayas for me. 😋 I will wait until I get more empty bags. Do you think really thick plastic dog food bags would work? I have rice bags, but only the 25# size. Maybe for a book bag.

It was cold and rainy here today. I'll my house work was done so I played with the chicken calculator and asked questions on here about genes...and then played with the calculator some more, read a lot, looked at pictures and played with the calculator some more til my head hurt...lol. Think I'll have to be patient and let the littles grow up more to see their final colors. They change a lot as they grow. Then I'll do my best to figure out what I'm seeing and ask questions. I definitely have more questions than answers right now.

But it was actually a fun way to spend the day even if I get frustrated by how little I know. It's never too late 🤞 and for some reason I want to with these birds.

But...if I can't give away or sell the babies then I have to stop breeding too and that seems my best teacher. 🤷‍♀️

Well I spent ONE night away…and had a chicken issue. I swear they sit around waiting to be problems! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Poppy (my new porcelain d’Uccles) appeared confused as to what bedtime was…sooo while I’m miles away I checked the cameras

So I spent 2 hours obsessively watching the camera to make sure she wasn’t attacked by rats till the pet sitter got back to get her.

I also wanted to keep an eye on the new chicks, so I got some entertaining shots of them 😍

Was a fun night away though…took the family to Great Wolf Lodge, and they swam lots and then got to go to the arcade. As you can guess…DDs favorite part was the arcade 😆

Then we get home and the big storm coming kicked up wind…and the worst piece of fence finally came down 😩

So after a long day in a humid chaotic pool/hotel with my in-laws, we had to clean up animals, fix up a fence solution and prepare things for the coming rains.

So I’m now sitting like a zombie watching Dateline and snuggling with the Screamer for a bit 😍 So exhausted—all of us! 🥱

Sounds like a great time, although sorry you had to come home to a lot of fixing. Some chicken teenagers do not like to go to bed. Cute snuggler you have there.

I'd definitely keep her isolated for at least a few days to a week. Poor baby. Hope she heals up ok.
Thank you for the advice. I will need to have her inside for the next freezing days so her bum tissue doesn't get frostbite, and keep an eye on her. She is lower in the pecking order. I saw Cock E peck at and chase her today, don't know what that was about. Maybe she'll end up liking me, or hating me more. Time will tell.

Haha she doesn’t get to use that excuse anymore, she’s 3 years old 😆 I think she might either be a bit spoiled…or a bit slow 😆😆 She’s very sweet, but she doesn’t chicken very well. Being with a big flock seems perplexing to her. Pecking scratch doesn’t appeal to her…she and Daisy both seem to not quite know what to do out there. Poor sweet girl. She stood like that in the middle of the run in the dark for over two hours. Then finally seemed to decide to find a better spot to sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️

The fence was a big bummer, but not at all unexpected. I’ve wanted to replace it since we moved in 7 years ago. Husband just keeps putting it off…so here we are haha.

I’d keep her in until it warms up and she has time to recover 😢 Poor Pepper 😢
I'll have to fix up the rabbit cage for her, instead of the small cat carrier, like a broody cage, and keep her in the spare room, which has carpet 😒. She shouldn't need any heat, being they do enjoy colder weather. Other than that, she's been eating, foraging acting mostly normal.

Great reason to not delay anymore. Silly chickens!
Is it the breed?

O that is a beautiful tree! ❤️ Fingers crossed mine never get that gorgeous or I'll never get them inside for the winter 🤣. Wonder if I can keep em small and still get fruit big enough to drool over?

Well...think he trusts more then loves...but I'm awfully fond of the little yowler. ❤️

Wow that seriously sucks on the fence...but your family is so precious! I can't help but smile 😃❤️
Your kitty is adorable ☺️ ❤️ I think to feral kitties trust is love ❤️. I always said I wouldn’t marry a man who hates cats. If you can’t love a cat despite all their unique characteristics, you won’t ever understand a woman 😁 I very much relate to cats—want love when I want love…like to sleep all day and be pampered…mostly want to be left alone but not alone. Hehe. Good thing my husband secretly likes cats…😬

That picture of my daughter hugging her pile of tickets is just the epitome of 9 year old joy 😍 she was SO excited! She won 2505 tickets in a jackpot spin!
