What did you do with your flock today?

Don't worry. I mess up all the time! And auto-correct doesn't help. You should see some of the howlers I've made because of it 🤣

The comb becoming pale is perfectly normal during a moult, don't worry. Penelope has just mounted and she was so pale she looked like a little ghost.

A few extra multi-vits, biotin for feather growth and some extra protein in the diet will help them through it.
Yep, auto correct makes Penelope a roo 😅

That storm and rain that past through here must have scared the eggs out of the girls. There were 6 eggs out there this morning instead of the normal 4. Other then that they all seem to look good. I gave them a little bit of mixed scratch a bit ago for a treat.
Opposite here. Less eggs. Have had a drastic drop in eggs. 2, 5, 3 the last few days. Had been 7-9. Must be the crazy, snow, rain, wind cold. 13 girls, not counting Pepper in the care unit. She even gave me 3 eggs the past week.

I guess each flock is different according to where you are at, the weather, and or the personalities of the breed? I'm not going to complain about getting more egg's today from my girl's though. I'll take all they want to give to me.

Sitting here in the dark with that nice throw on my lap again.
It was pretty windy yesterday. Got my order finished and then some, felt a little blasted so it was good to get up to clean and then refill a few foodsafe containers with feed mixes and to change my view for a bit, that and of course my morning of photo ops.

DH may go on a bit of a holiday to visit his son and family in a few weeks. I will stay for the animals and to give dad his time with his boy ♡ He will be gone for a few weeks so I need to get some stuff in order so I can tread water with basic chores. So, clean organized house and Tofu for about 2 weeks depends... could be more.
I already have fantasies about painting walls and rearranging furniture and even of starting the haul out the junk from the shop but I know it is only a dream, I never seem to make it past chores.

Gal MAY come to pick up her roofing material today... or so she said :fl :fl
Hope he's gone the perfect amount of time...just enough to enjoy a little quiet time ❤️
I ended up getting 5 chicks from her. One “barre rock”, one “buff Orpington” and 3 “Australorps”. I pit “” because I don’t and she doesn’t really know for sure. Her daughter picked them up and what she was told what they were is what they are supposed to be. We will see when they get bigger. She was supposed to have 5 Brahmas and I only seen 2 out of all of them. 🤷‍♀️

But my little guy is happy and running around and having a good old time! I’m so happy cause I didn’t want to lose one to loneliness…
Lovely new littles whatever they are!
I have heard mentioned before that if there is a lone chick that hatched, you can put a mirror in the brooder. When the chick see's itself, it will think that it has company.
I like the mirror...I've never thought of that ❤️
Have been butt watching, and no signs in any. She seemed to have developed the gleet after the prolapse, while she was already isolated. She's talking more, seems happier, except for the "boring" treats of cracked corn, lettuce, and yogurt. Lol. Stopped the Mobic and calcium. No more eggs laid since switching to just corn.. Exposed tissue is shrinking a little more each day. No shavings are sticking. Still dripping, but not as much. Hopefully, at this rate she should be good in a week, I'll have a buddy after this. Will still keep her in for egg withdrawal after that,, and further healing.
She let me pick her up this morning, did not try to run from me. Grateful for all your help. Thanks again :)
Looking forward to seeing Pepper all better! ❤️

Chicks are so, so adorable. Especially when they interact with you like that and don't run screaming to the other side of the brooder. You will probably find it will always be friendlier than the rest.
It was lovely for me to be mother hen for once as I don't normally hatch. Having said that, Pru and I are a team. She allows me to take the chicks from day one and start to handle them with no stress or growling or pecking. DH is NOT allowed the same privilege. She comes in the house with them for breakfast and supper. With Stan, she even came and sat at my feet while I worked. Once they got a bit older, she'd bring them into the house and dump them on me while she had a break. She's a fantastic broody. Penelope kept kidnapping Stan until he was about 10wks and Pru wasn't having any of it. I do feel sorry for Penelope, she's desperate to be a mommy but we can't have any more chickens at present.
Oh poor Penelope!! Maybe one day soon! ❤️ that just all sounds so sweet! I had one from my first 18 that was the same as this little one I have. She now runs to the run door when I come up and she isn’t far behind me when I’m in there. It’s nice to not have them freak out on me.
