What did you do with your flock today?

I'm really enjoying this thread!

I got laid off yesterday. I work in a conveyor belt factory, and it's not the first time I've had this happen. I'm not freaking out over it, I'm taking advantage of the time off!

It's so wonderful to have time to watch chicken TV! What is it about watching chickens that is so relaxing? I know I'm not the only one to experience a calming and relaxing feeling just by watching my birds. I like to offer treats such as scratch grains or dried meal worms to draw them closer to me. I have a few who are willing to take treats from my hands. Watching them interact with each other fascinates me. Their body language, vocalizations and posturing all say so much. Truly, they are very interesting!

I don't know when I will be returning to work. It could be weeks, it could be months. But I am taking full advantage of it. My son and I are almost ready to begin construction of a chicken tractor. I'm raising peeps and teenagers and have a small flock of adult hens. I have more coming in July (thanks to all you ENABLERS!) so there is plenty going on here!
I'm sorry to read you got layed off. I hope this will be short lived but, getting chores done is a feeling of great accomplishment.

I’m sorry you got laid off. :hugs Spending more time with your chickens is always good, and congrats on your upcoming birds!

We are upgrading and revamping our coop setup. We originally had a 12'x20' fenced in roofed carport with a 7'x6'x8' house made from recycled pallets for our chickens and had purchased the tractor supply expandable retriver kennels last year for our ducks. My 2 female white muscovey's have a 11'x11' roofed kennel complete with external house which we insulated with tarping for wind protection and all side panels are covered with the all weather panels which we roll up when weather permits. My male muscovy has a 5'x10' roofed kennel complete with external house and all weather panels and the chickens now have a 11'x11' kennel to match the female muscovy's. I am in the process of building a new external house for the chickens because we took on another 4 chicjs this year in March and needed them to have more room. All 3 kennels have front door opening allowing for free range during the day now as well. I absolutely love these kennels and would highly recommend them to anyone needing something with relatively easy setup and versatile for a multitude of animal uses. Here are some pictures of our in process renovation.
Before during and after.
